  1. Power grinder with a flap wheel -- Dremel -- other sanding implements like the Guinevere etc.
  2. They are 3/8 across from point to point -- lol I actually had to re-cut the whole US flag because I dropped the stars on the first one and couldn't get them straightened out as to which went in which hole.
  3. Scotland
  4. This one is made from white oak and cedar throughout -- all cut with a #1 modified geometry -- the flags began as 4/4 and shaped down to about 1/2 inch average -- the backboard is 2 layers 1/4 cedar planks glued like plywood. Finished off with Spar Poly. About a week altogether. The stars for the US flag were a definite pain in the rear -- about 3/8 across.
  5. This was actually in return for Les sending me blades to try out -- but thank you
  6. It was a thank you for the blades and for your grandson and his choice of profession -- I make these to honor police (and in other trim colors for fire and sheriff versions- I even did one for Army) for what they do
  7. Along with the Jolly Roger -- this is how my week went so far -- It's what happens when family wants things made lol. Most of this is for my sister and niece - my sister's name is Cheri and she's a math teacher - so I made a black cherry Pi -- All of it is Baltic birch ply 1/8 1/4 and 3/8 -- The big round is 24 across -- the Pi is 3/4
  8. You could cut a triple stack of 1/8 with a #1 blade with a lot more control than a single 1/8 (#1 modified geometry is my go to blade -- my last couple pieces I cut 3/4 and 1" with it)-- and yes cutting with a duller blade does help with control but not so much at the 1/8 level. You could also try a 2/0 (even those I at least double stack even if I'm just wasting a piece) -- I will usually cut the longer easier cuts until the blade has the edge dulled a bit -- then go in for the delicate ones -- however - slowing the blade speed down doesn't always help with control. In fact I think I've turned my speed away from maximum twice only. Both times I turned it back up as soon as the blade dulled a bit. The thing to control is the speed you feed the wood into the blade. I have found high speed blade - slow feed into the blade works best for me -- slow is smooth - smooth is fast Also there is an alternative -- nobody knows what it's supposed to look like so you could always go with round ports there or a pair of rectangular ones -- change it up to what's possible for you to do rather than fight it until you get better at the control (practice practice practice). It is a very nice piece but it also has potential to be altered in certain ways that can make it your own instead of a copy and with less frustration
  9. A bit less controversial this time -- My sister has a play area for g-kids that's a pirate theme -- so I made her a little present -- 10 x 16 overall -- cut from 4/4 white oak with a #1 modified geometry blade - sanded to 400 with some new toys - I think it worked well -- the final picture is the original photo I found on line
  10. I believe that is one of his free ones -- and I seem to remember something about him taking a break for a bit
  11. One of best compliments -- means I pulled off what I aimed for
  12. High praise indeed
  13. Thank you -- so am I sometimes
  14. Thank you - that was the idea going in -- this guy just says I want a flag like this- you decide how it's presented -- so I gave him one as real as I could make it
  15. I've heard a line in a song that goes "the safest place in the world is insanity". I think I'm pretty safe then since this piece is a bit insane. I started with 3/4 Baltic Birch - cut it (with #1 modified geometry) and shaped it (with various power tools starting with a grinder and flap wheel) Then mounted on 1/4 and finally framed with different molding (need to work on those corners) Framed size is 35 x 23 It's for a customer -- I'm not getting involved in politics or things like that I think it worked!
  16. I have no trouble with the #1 blades -- the 2/0 blades are breaking if I load them the same as other blades and then tension them - as soon as the lever reaches the top they snap at the dividing line between upper and lower teeth -- I figured out a work-around by bowing the blade some when clamping them in - then tensioning. Once loaded they work fine (the 2/0)other than being very aggressive while new and sharp. Once they dull a bit they're great. I'll have to look for those as I've been doing some really small stuff (but do they cut as clean?). Maybe they'll be more controllable with the high teeth count. I should also say I haven't had any experience with the 2/0 before this last month on these jobs so I figured on a learning curve. I did learn (on my next project) that I can cut 3/4 with a #1 modified. Hadn't tried it before but it works great
  17. I use the pegas modified geometry #1 and 2/0 -- not real happy with the 2/0 at the moment -- lots of breaking but those are new for me
  18. Yes -- everything is spray paint
  19. I've had some orders for badges lately so I thought I would show therm here as well -- all are framed to 12 x 16 (my own frames) and I used 1/8 through 3/8 on all of them -- mostly #1 and 2/0 modified geometry
  20. Mostly my Dremel -- am looking into alternatives tho
  21. You might check out Joe Bonamassa, Ronnie Earl, and John Mayall as well
  22. If you like Clapton I'm pretty confident you would like JJ Cale and Gary Moore (Moore is pretty well under rated) https://youtu.be/tEzwkaIdM64 https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_kS45hBUKNB3uhEFYOytJMOO5WHr5gjLI0
  23. You can download it free on a smart phone or you can go online and sign up -- if you don't mind commercials it is free -- or you can pay 5.00 a month to get rid of commercials -- There is another price of 10 a month but I don't know what that adds -- If your car radio takes bluetooth then you can play it there through your phone
  24. I use Pandora while working -- some of my favorites are Papa Mali -- Ronnie earl and the broadcasters -- The record company -- Kaleo -- Trace Bundy -- Emancipator -- Nightmares on Wax -- Theivery corp. -- Rodrigo y Gabriella -- Roomful of blues -- Tab Benoit -- Stevie Ray Vaughn -- Beth Hart -- Jonny Lang -- Mindi Abair -- Hootie and the Blowfish -- Adelle -- Melody Gardot -- Joe Bonamassa -- Gary Moore
  25. Nah I just don't do well in pictures -- no problem
