  1. Very nice! I like the crisp clean cuts and contrasting woods/stain.
  2. domain (Dan), I got the original pattern off the internet a few years ago and I'm sorry that I can't direct you to a web site for it. But, here is a picture of the printed template that I used, if that would be of interest. The Phoenix Raceway is in Avondale, and is just over 14 miles from my house, which is in Goodyear. I'm not a race fan, but I do enjoy hearing well-tuned cars. There's something invigorating about hearing those engines. I heard the NASCAR Championship was to be here in January, I think. With this coronavirus though, I wouldn't place any bets on it.
  3. Summer is coming to Arizona so I thought this would be appropriate:
  4. Happy Birthday, Dick!
  5. If we don't get together physically we can at least still be friends in the Village. If I have any questions regarding intarsia may I contact you for advice? Whenever I do an intarsia project I'll be sure to share it with you for a a critique. Have a blessed day!
  6. Now that's a cleaver gift idea for a graduate. I know I sure would have loved it. Wonderful, I love it!
  7. I have done only one motorcycle and found it a pleasant challenge. I like design you've chosen and you've done a super job.
  8. I really enjoy seeing what you are going to come up with next. I haven't done any intarsia projects yet but have plans to try it soon.
  9. What a wonderful idea! Great design for the intended purpose!
  10. I'm still working with "cheap" woods and will eventually graduate to the more expensive woods some day. Wonderful consistency on your cuts Denny. I really like what you've done. Are the designs your own?
  11. Paul, last month you commented on the Southwest Medallion I did, and I thank you for your kind words. My inspiration for this was a pyrography image I saw on line. While I was creating the pattern I had to modify the details of the background as the original was to detailed for me to attempt. I have other photos that show more closeup detail if you'd like to see them. Just let me know.

Paul, Here are some shots taken during the project, some close-ups, and one of the inspiration piece. You are always welcome. Fred

  12. Here is a project I did as a birthday for my brother, who has been a pylon judge at the Reno International Air Races for 20+ years. It is a composite of three photos taken by my nephew.
  13. These are the projects I've worked on, and am working on, during this unfathomable period of time. The 3D-compound project was made with Mendocino redwood slats glued together; the bookends are not completed as they need to be glued and stained; the "Daddy's Hand" is for my son who's newborn boy spent the first two months of his life in the hospital; and the rocking reindeer is half inch baltic birch plywood with three different finishes (rubbed grey paint, medium walnut Danish Oil, and mahogany stain).
  14. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
  15. Kris, I envy how well you replicated the photo into a pattern. I really am interested in developing the ability to see photos as a pattern like this. Beautiful!
  16. Thank you for your confidence in my competence. I'd like to think you are right.
  17. I think the Mustang is my favorite project so far. I have plans to do another car real soon; an AC Cobra. I'm still deciding on what the image should look like.
  18. Jim, nice, really nice. Quite clever. I've seen some 3d ornaments that I might try this Autumn. I like the inlay, also. I would have to think about that before I attempted one. I looks a bit intimidating.
  19. Ron, Thank you so much. With encouragement like yours I'm beginning to feel that my efforts are more worth it than I have realized. Especially when individuals like you, who have so much more experience, compliment my work.
  20. I'll be glad to get to the point where I can appreciate my work as others seem to. Thank you for your encouragement.
  21. I think inlay would be more challenge than I'm up for. I'd like to see some of the fanciful and realistic dragons, not to do any, just because I admire creativity in people.
  22. Here are few other designs I have completed: We had a boxer when I was quite young a din remember how comical she was, so I tried to capture that persona with the Peek-a-Boo Boxer project. The Lord of the Rings shield was made of my son who loves anything Tolkien-related. The Tree of Life Celtic across was a gift for my pastor who had just returned from Ireland, and the "see no evil" sign is my safety reminder in my shop (images borrowed from an advertisement in Lowe's).
  23. A photograph was the inspiration piece. I got it off the internet and fell in love with how it looked. Having owned a '67 fastback Mustang in the past, I just HAD to attempt this as a challenge. To tell you the truth, I'm very pleased how it turned out.
  24. The inspiration piece was a photo I got off the internet. As a past '67 fastback Mustang owner I just had to figure out a way to reproduce it. The overall dimensions are 12" x 25" and the Mustang image is 18" x 5".
  25. I'm looking at the compound cutting as an idea and am searching for non-typical designs. Any ideas?
