  1. Thank you
  2. Learning to better control the spiral blade. I've wanted to cut this pattern for some time but with my old saw I knew I'd mess it up. I still need work but I'm getting there.
  3. I had a good friend who lived in Beaverton. He died 3 years ago. His widow is still in the area somewhere.
  4. Thanks! Got my blade order from Bear today. Now if it will warm up enough to go outside.
  5. Thanks. I'll give it a try I had thought of that. My concern would be heat. If it gets too hot during the grinding process it may ruin the temper of the blade making it weak and break. I'll let ya know how it goes. Thanks again!
  6. Good job! That looks great.
  7. Now that I have a 788, which doesn't accept pinned blades, I have a couple dozen pinned blades that are no good to me. Is there a way to get the pins out without damaging the blade? Or, are these blades now trash to me?
  8. Thanks all!
  9. COOL project. That turned out REALLY nice.
  10. Thanks! I grew up around horses, cows and chickens. I love animals and really enjoy cutting animal portraits and such. I've had a Hitachi CM40 for over 20 years. Bought it new for something like $140. It served me well but it was time for an upgrade and, MAN! am I happy with the upgrade.
  11. Nice. Will be a welcomed gift, I'm sure.
  12. AWESOME! I too like to cut animals. You did a great job.
  13. Oh BTW... Both these patterns were in the summer 2018 issue of Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts magazine.
  14. GEEZ! Wish I'd gotten one a lot sooner. Using spiral blades on my old Hitachi it seemed just as I was getting my groove on..... BROKEN BLADE. On the 788 I cut both these horse portraits and only broke one blade. Also thought the old saw was very light on vibration. Much to my amazement the 788 seems vibration free in comparison. I LOVE IT! Now for some final sanding and finish.
  15. Very nice
  16. Thank you. I have only used it about 30 minutes and already love it
  17. Thanks! I'll do that. I did a little cutting with it this afternoon to try it out. The guy I got it from is a cabinet maker. He said he bought it new about 9 months ago. Used a couple times then just sits all lonely in the corner. That saw is not going to be lonely any more!
  18. I did it! I am now the proud owner of a DW788
  19. I'm just a hop and a skip from Whitehouse. When I was a teen we had property there where my horse was kept. Used to terrorize Whitehouse by horse back.
  20. My saw is a 23 year old Hitachi CM40, I bought new. It still runs like atop but has been giving me some problems lately. I used to be able to find parts for it at E-replacement parts. A few days ago a part broke and when I looked, the parts are no longer available for this saw. Any way, I sold a bike today. I went on facebook marketplace to mark the listing sold and , much to my amazement, there's a DeWalt 788 for sale less than 20 miles from me. Well, wish me luck, I'm meeting the guy tomorrow morning. Hopefully all will go well and I get a 788 in my little gray shed.
  21. COOL! I'm 20 minutes out of Tyler, out on the backroads. I grew up in Corsicana area.
  22. NICE!
  23. It's all good. We had a nice conversation about different saws. LOL
  24. I wonder..... Does being right or left handed have anything to do with cut direction? I usually cut counter clockwise, (turning my piece clockwise) and I'm right handed.
  25. I'm in the Piney Woods of East Texas.
