  1. What paints are recommended for wood, i.e. wood puzzles. Looking for a one time spray application with no further top coating. bb
  2. Perhaps you got their last one
  3. Ah- Yes! The Covid vacation may be in play. My son witnesses this a lot. He shows up for work faithfully but others do not - Covid vacation. bb
  4. I can't find it anywhere including Lowes, Home Depot, Klingspor, etc. Anyone know why there is such a shortage? bb
  5. Fox Chapel Publishing has plans
  6. I used to do production cutting ~ 5 hours a day. Started with a DeWalt BUT only got a 2 years out of it before it needed to go in the shop. It only had a one year warranty. Then I switched to Delta with a 5 yr warranty. It only gets the same 2 years before going into the shop for repair. I always had a backup Delta saw because repairs took weeks to complete. Delta saw can be had for around $300 at Home Depot when on sale. So, you can get 3+ Delta saws for the price of a pegas, Hawk, or Hegner. That would be my recommendation. bb
  7. Duck brand packaging tape arrived yesterday. 2 days from Amazon. How do you spell relief? Duck Brand, Duck Brand, Duck Brand!!!! I wish the USPS would treat my Priority Mail packages like they do Amazon's packages!
  8. Well there is packaging tape and there is packaging tape! Just bought a roll of 3M packaging tape at CVS because I had run out of my regular tape. Pathetic. I'm wondering if they provide a cheap version to CVS? The crap won't stick to my wood! Going back to my Duck brand tape! bb
  9. My first attempt. Just bought his dolphin pattern and will make shortly. I was able to find 20' of key chain and 30 connectors on Amazon for $7. If I put a fish hook in the tail what kind of fish would I catch? bb
  10. It looked like a foreign brand. I use 3M "45" spray adhesive. A very light coat works well. bb
  11. SEYCO has the perfect sanding/dust collection combo for this type of project! bb
  12. Yes I have seen similar. In fact I have fish made out of padauk and instead of the eye there is a key chain. I've been meaning to make some as gifts and now you have motivated me! bb
  13. Shop-vac news: Shop Vac owner revealed zNewsletter Sunday Dec 30, 2020 The popular Shop Vac brand of vacuums has been purchased by GreatStar Tools USA, giving new life to the global manufacturer headquartered in Williamsport. GreatStar announced Monday it will take ownership of Shop Vac assets, re-open the Williamsport plant and rehire employees who lost their jobs when the factory let go most of its 430-plus work force in mid-September after a failed sale of the company by its private owners, the Miller family now living on the West Coast. GreatStar’s bid to buy Shop Vac was settled on Christmas Eve but the identity of the buyer had not been released until Monday. GreatStar is part of Hangzhou GreatStar Industrial Co. Ltd., a hand tool manufacturer in Asia, specializing in designing and manufacturing products for DIY, professional and industrial markets globally.
  14. I make mini puzzles and usually give them away but a set of 5 can be ordered on my website. check them out at www.pickenspuzzles.com. Only 5 are listed but I have many others including a hippo, rhino, pony, cross, etc. bb
  15. Kevin, this is the Seyco dust collector I have. I love it!! I had them provide a drill chuck on the right side of the grinder so I can use my 3M sanding disks with 1/4" shank. Brian
  16. Attached are pics of my recent dust collection scheme. I used Rockler's Dust Right connections plus a Shop Vac straight tube section and floor attachment under the table. I hook everything up to a mobile Seyco dust collector. No more dust on the floor and the top tube picks up all the dust on top of the table.
  17. I intentionally stay away from soft woods for puzzles - they break too easily. Your problem sounds like the blade is upside down. bb
  18. I've had both DeWalt and Delta saws. Virtually the same saw except the stands are different due to different footprints. But can be modified to accommodate. I've gone to Delta now because of the price and warranty. As previously noted, if you are in production mode you will need a spare as warranty repairs take a long time. And I just found out that SEYCO sells replacement blade holder knob tips for both! Cheaper than replacing the entire knob. bb
  19. Went to Home Depot site: Currently not available. Can get HD to send you an e-mail when back in stock. bb
  20. same drill here. 3 months to repair. And that's why you need a spare! 5 yr warranty on the saw is a plus. I'll continue with Delta until I won't - lol. bb
  21. I just bought some 1/4" and 1/8" Russian Baltic Birch and they are beautiful. No flaws or patches. And I inspected the edges and there are no voids. bb
  22. I purchased from Rugby Architectural Products in Atalanta, GA. Unfortunately Rugby Architectural Products does not have any stores close to MI. It was the best Baltic Birch plywood I have ever purchased. No flaws at all. They said the Russian Baltic Birch is hard to get now because of the weather in Russia. bb
  23. I just paid $14.77 for a 5'x5' sheet of 5.2mm Russian Baltic Birch and $9.86 for 3mm. They had thicker but I didn't inquire. Brian
  24. I have been cutting 1/4" Baltic Birch for 15 years now and the only blade I use is the Flying Dutchman Puzzle Blade! It has no reverse teeth. Sometimes I will clean up the bottom edge with a fine 3 M sanding disk on a lathe or drill press. Brian
  25. Scott, You have really progressed with your skills. I am impressed! I recommend you check out the Association of Games and Puzzles - http://www.gamesandpuzzles.org/index.php I joined and went to their convention in Denver last year. Nice bunch of folks. And we toured Liberty Puzzles in Boulder: https://www.libertypuzzles.com/ Chris Wirth, owner of Liberty Puzzles, gave a presentation at the Denver convention. Fascinating. Convention next year is in VA - not too far from NC. And they have a quarterly magazine. The last issue features an article by Janell Amely from GA who uses a laser to cut acrylic puzzles. Very nice article. You can see some of Janell's work here: https://www.3catmax.com/ Brian
