  1. As far as colorant goes......mica powder gives you the " river " look with the streaks in it. Regular colorant is semi transparent and can be used in the fashion of stained glass where sun shines through. I have some alcohol ink but have never used but others use it making coasters and it gives you an abstract sort of look. Amazon has it all relatively cheap. I use the " let's resin "brand, but have used the cheapest stuff with good results.

  14. Thanks to Jim for these great patterns......It's been so hot that I have been unable to spend any time scrolling out in the garage, so I thought I would give watercolor pencils a try. The projects were previously triple stacked cut with # 3 and # 1 fd scroll reverse blades and I used Arteza 48 count watercolor pencils. Also, I Just want to say that I visit this website frequently and I have been inspired by and in awe of the wonderful group of talented scrollers that populate this site. Thanks to all..... Any and all critiques welcome.....forrest

  17. I am running out of shelf space to display my scrolled portraits in the living room, so I figure the walls in the living room are my next best bet. However, I can't mar the walls in any way or I'm gonna get a whoopin. What do y'all suggest. I'm thinking a good brand of double sided tape. Some may be in lightweight frames and some may be just 1/8 or 1/4 in. BB ply with a 1/8 BB backer or poster board backer. Any suggestions? Thanx in advance....Forrest
  18. Just wanted to pass along that I have used Duck brand shelf liner on 3 project and it has worked like a charm. I'm liking it better than the blue painters tape.
  19. Howdy ya'll.....I have a couple of quick questions on how to finish this project. ( if you type gnome in the search box you will see that Barb has a picture of one. ) It is going to sit on front porch and will be in the shade. I cut mine out of 1/8 bb and painted all the pieces with a triple coat of rustoleum 2x rattle can paint. I'm going to clear coat them and I have 3 different products to choose from. minwax fast dry poly, rustoleum 2x ultra cover, and krylon triple thick clear glaze. They are all rattle can and all semi gloss. Does anyone here have an idea as to which clear coat might be best. Also, I have some Titebond 111 and I wonder if I need to nail the letters to picket or if glue would do the trick. The picket is western red cedar and has been sanded to a smooth finish. Thanks in advance for any and all replies......forrest
  20. I went out and bought a roll of Duck brand removable adhesive clear laminate. I'm pretty sure it's the right stuff. I'm going to give it a go. I'll let ya'll know how it worked for me. Thanks for the replies...very informative stuff..forrest
  21. Roberta.....That is some top shelf work
  22. Ever since I started scrolling , for about 2 years now, I have been using blue painters tape on my projects as a base to attatch my patterns to the wood. I then read where shelf liner might be a good alternative to this method. I read many past posts on the subject and I even watched the video by (Iggy ?) on the subject. I was just about to put on my shoes and go to Wally World to get hooked up when I read where it may not be a good idea to use this product on bb ply, as it may pull up wood fibers when taken off of the finished project. I wonder, did I read that right? What seems to be the general consensus from the users of shelf liner on bby ply. Thanks for the help.........forrest
  23. Hi ya'll......I hear alot of talk about swapping out chuck heads, usually for Pegas chuck heads. Clue me in to what the deal is.....Do they wear out periodacally? How do you know when they need to be replaced? Is Pegas the go to brand and how do they benefit a scroller. I appreciate you guys and gals....forrest
  24. I would like to post pictures of some of my projects. Most of my patterns come from the folks on SSV and from Steve Good. Thanks to all..... It appears there a variety of different places to post pics. How do you decide where to post the pics? Are there any instructional videos to watch? Do you include the pattern makers name, blade selection, and wood choice with pics. Thanks in advance for any and all replies.......
  25. Thanx for the replies. Outstanding info as always.
