  1. the hardest part of the build is the steaming for the bends in the plywood. I used a steam iron and wet towels. Takes about a day per side.

  6. Here is a update on the China made EX21. After having problems with vibrations at higher speeds, I received from General International a Replacement saw. I wish i could say it is  better than first saw. The vibrations are some what better but not enough to say I am happy. They have to make some changes to eliminate Vibrations at higher speeds  if they want to succeed..

I will say that I am surprised that they agreed to replace the saw.

I am now waiting for shipping to return the first saw.

I honestly wouldn't do the rebuild if I were you especially with a brand new saw... I would try to contact the company and see if you can't get a refund.. Or just cut your losses now.. I am still not super impressed with mine even after the rebuild.. Good running saw but something still isn't quite right in my opinion.. I've never owned a "real" excalibur nor any of the other like saws that are made in the old plant.. so maybe it's the way they run.. maybe the Hawk scroll saws have spoiled me..  To do over I kinda wish I had cut my losses and ordered a new Pegas..  They seem to stand behind their product and seem to be quality products.. I've not seen too many good reviews of the China Excalibur..

I put in around $300 to rebuild mine.. But before buying parts.. If I was you I'd start checking for either loose or too tight nuts and bolts.. I've read where some folks have had the saws fall apart with screws / bolts etc falling off.. That would be where I would look right now.. If you're mechanically incline and understand that if you have a bearing screwed too tight or too loose you'll get vibration... Go through the saw and check all of those..

      That's great news!

  12. My wife bought it through Amazon. I Could not get the 30 day rebate from Amazon i missed it by 5 days. I then sent to General International complaining about excess Vibrations and noise. I mention that it was a Fathers day Gift and i felt bad for my wife & daughters as it was there money spent in good faith for a product. I think that may have embarrassed them. I called a few times telling them it was a gift they should make it right. I then recieved a email from a Jory Thomas of G.I.power products wanting to know more about my problem which i explained again i used that gift thing. He suggested couple of things to try. I told him i had already tried these i seen them on scroll saw Village forum. Again i think he realized that the forum was not a good thing for them. Today i was told a new EX21was being shipped and it would gone over to insure that it would be a good machine. So i should see a new saw in a few days. I will keep you updated. In my opinion mentioning to them that it was a Gift may have helped. I am not to good at writing on Computer so i hope this makes sense. I also found that Claim phone number was not correct my daughter found the correct number 1-844-877-5234.
  13. I lived in Owosso ,Mich. all my until moving to Florida in 1981.

I'm south west of Owosso,  down near Battle Creek..it's a beautiful area up that way.. Bought a car last year up in Owosso and it was a beautiful drive..  My brother lives in FL and I think it's beautiful there with the palm trees etc.. Just different scenery I guess.. Lot's of people say my area here in the boonies where I live is beautiful but I guess because I see it every day I don't really notice it..

Speaking of flying.. I'm 51 and never been on a plane until this year in March we flew down to FL.. was kinda neat to see out the window at the ground below.. Parts of the flight was not so pleasant but they was just a few spots for short couple minute each time. We drove home in our rental car because of the Covid and wasn't sure getting on a plane was a good idea at the time..

My wife inherited her mothers house in Owosso so we go back when possible. Years ago i use to ride my Triumph all over the back roads loved it. I am now 83 yrs old. I been fortunate to have done the things i have been able to do. Started Flying again at the age of 52 and gave up at 78. Miss it. Did some endureo,s in Rose City, Grayling when i was in my 30,s  with old motorcycle. Now i love being in the garage making sawdust.

  14. I have the China made scroll saw. I happy to report that General International is sending a new EX21.!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They have insured me that before it is shipped they will make certain there are no problems. I am excited about there decision to help me. Fred B.
  15. The vibration on my EX21 occur above half speed and higher. Not sure if there is a way to correct. I was told the China saw tolerances were not like the Taiwan saws, which could create the vibrations at higher speeds. Not a good experience. Fred B
  16. Trackman ; that had to be good feeling to give your work to your church members. Very nice. Fred Buehler
  17. I am new on this site. I live in Clearwater, Fl. Been here since 1981. I purchased a used De Walt 10 yrs ago and have scrolling since. I did have it rebuilt just after i bought it its been very good to me. I enjoy the different post on this site it always interesting to see what other scrollers are doing. The workmanship i have viewed is amazing. There seems to be a relaxing feeling when i am busy scrolling. For fathers day i received a new scroll saw machine that has not lived up to my expectations.
  18. Kevin; I received a EXx21 for fathers day. the biggest problem is vibration on higher speeds. It is made in China. Your information on rebuild is excellent. Thanks for posting it.
  19. Joe your work is outstanding.
  20. I like the pattern. The purple background makes it stand out.
