Book: Circular Scroll Saw Designs by Charles Hand
Ceric ME replied to Tom-in-Ashland's topic in General Scroll Sawing
Debind it. Is there enough room to put holes in the pages to put the book in a binder? That's what I did with my introductory scroll saw book. I used a razor as I didn't have my scroll saw yet but it should be relatively easy with the scroll saw to cut off the binding then you can take the pages out and they'll be flat so you can scan them and make a copy as a pattern. -
Clock is on my list of things I want to make. Then After a clock that I didn't do the motion for I like to make one motion and all. Great work.

I've been using a cheap analog gauge for degrees from Harbor Freight. You have to wait for it to settle down but it's alright. The digital ones are nicer. Just make sure the Table/Stand you saw is on is 0 degree or it won't work correctly. I've also tried to use an angle finder, the type you can put to an angle and then lock down, it's just to long for what I'm trying to do.

I cut this for my Mother in law I cut this for my Mom I made this for my wife. Its a cat shelf so she can place our orange cat Oscar on it during meetings when he insist on being part of the meeting. Cat is a custom pattern that I drew up. The Mom plaque's are a Steve Good pattern.

What do you think of this drill press?
Ceric ME replied to Dave Monk's topic in General Scroll Sawing
I love my Miter saw. I have the DeWalt one https://www.dewalt.com/products/power-tools/saws/miter-saws/15-amp-12-in-electric-singlebevel-compound-miter-saw/dws715 My first "Large" tool purchase was this for a bit less then $300. We got it do trim. Haven't done the trim yet but man did it open up my woodworking capability. Now with that said now that I've gotten into Scroll Sawing I wish I would have ponied up the extra many and gotten a sliding compound miter saw for the extra width it can cut. At the time we debated between that for the future but, my wife and I couldn't really justify it. It would be really handy to be able to cut a full 12+ inch wide board. Especially since setting everything up to use the circular saw is a pain once you just walked over, lined the wood up, and zip cut to where you want. Also while I know a table saw is suppose to be one of those things every woodworker just happens to have. The cost and the space I can't justify. -
What do you think of this drill press?

I've have this Wen Drill Press (I received it for Christmas part of the reason I was able to get my scroll saw) https://www.homedepot.com/p/WEN-10-in-Variable-Speed-Drill-Press-4212/204853908 Having the adjustable speed on the side is nice. The laser eats batteries. You can adjust how far down it goes. I have a cheap vice for it and clamp that goes in the table for long wood I've drilled. The chuck is rated for 1 - 13mm but, I've put a bit in it that is .66mm wide and it was secure. I can't tell you about the longevity. I've been quiet impressed for the cost. (It also has a little RPM Gauge on the front which is nice when trying to adjust to a recommended speed. Though I've mostly just keep it at the lowest for wood now.) I did "upgrade" it with a sewing light (Magnetic light with a stem) so I could see the drilling area better. If I ever need to by another there are some scenarios where to be nice to be able to bring the head out from the table. Though maybe by that time I might get to big for my britches (and shop) go actively see about scoring a Lathe. -

Silly question time, I know about Metric and SAE drill bits but what is the system for the number ones I keep seeing? On Model railroads, it is hard to find stores for the hobby anymore but, if your in Nashville, TN. Philips Toymart has a railroad section and can order you in a lot of different stuff.

Talking about unconventional. I've been toying with the idea of trying something like a Sewing tracing tool. https://www.amazon.com/LUNARM-PCS-Tracing-Wheel-Professional/dp/B08941QJH8/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=pattern+tracing+wheel&qid=1617546313&sr=8-3

Adam Savage once said on his channel to start with the cheapest version of a tool that does what you want. Once you used it then you'll know what you want in the best version or you'll know it's not worth the money. To that end I've wanted a scroll saw since I was a kid, so for about 28 years. I recently got some money as the employee of the quarter and I had an excuse. I went looking for a scroll saw in my budget and I found this: https://www.homedepot.com/p/General-International-1-2-Amp-16-in-Variable-Speed-Scroll-Saw-with-Flex-Shaft-LED-Work-Light-BT8007/206347735 The General International 16in Variable Speed Scroll saw. The saw can take Pin or Pinless blades. In general I like it for what it is. A beginner scroll saw. The one thing though that I really didn't like was the it uses an Allen Wrench to remove and add the blade. That needed to change. Look at the manual I noted that bolt was just an M4-0.7 hex head bolt. To McMaster-Carr, the parts would have been $11 with $11 shipping and come in 1-3 weeks. To Amazon: M4 Star Knob - Swpeet 15Pcs M4 7 Star Knob Female Thread Nut Clamping Knob Grip Assortment Kit, Star Shape Hand Knobs Black Plastic Screw-On Handle Clamping Knob for Mechanical Equipment (M4): Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific M4 Threaded Bar - Amazon.com: uxcell M4 x 110mm 304 Stainless Steel All Threaded Rod Bar Studs Fastener 10 Pcs: Home Improvement $16.50 Total and could be here in 2 days. We have a winner even thought I'm not fond of the star knobs. Biggest problem is I can only tilt the table 15 degrees as I went with a long bottom pull to clear the guard and well... the guard is built in a way that the hole is off... I may turn that into a stubby like the top. Plus the blade wants so slip a little from the bottom but, I don't think its the swap out causing that as much as I think I need to rough up that grip somehow. Suppers ready so I'm going to expand this a little later if others are interested in the steps and why. ------------ Bit of an update. Needes to loctite the bottom and top ones at the grip. Today I made a new plate for the where the saw goes. Its clear so the visibility is up.

Wife is redoing my son's room and I decided to make trinkets for it. The paint color of his room is Suddenly Starfire. Which gor me thinking Teen Titans and the next pattern was a fish in the workbook. Some tweak, some color, and... Beast Boy as a Fish Number 3 blade with some picket wood. Inspired by the Gwinnett folks on Youtube. Craig of the Creek pop out picture. Done with a 2/0 which honestly didn't really like using. I do wonder if I should put a clear coat on this as it is a printed picture.

Alright I haven't gotten to do any with the scroll saw yet. This is what I've done with the Drill Press and the Razor blade for my Edrinrigger and Special Christmas figure. Next I like to finish up putting together my Red Gobo figure from 2 Christmas's ago. I'm looking for a 3D Christmas Tree pattern with a nook in it to put the figure.

Hello, I live in Nashville and I excitedly just got my first Scroll Saw. It's a $90 unit that does take pinless blades. I'm starting out there until I can try out some of the more expensive units. I make and paint Warhammer figures as well and like to make them into Diorama. To that end I'm going to try my hand at some plastic scroll sawing as well. So far I've made a Basket, done some practice sheets, and made a cat cut-out. Watched a lot of Youtube on Scroll saws and I'm trying to go through Scrollsaw Workbook 3rd Edition (which I promptly drilled 3 holes through and cut the binding off to put it into a notebook.) Currently challenge is finding reasonably priced 1/8 and thinner wood I don't fill guilty messing up and not snapping blades at the lower clamp. I'm going to tool around here and hopefully find some interesting items.
