  1. Awesome work, glad I could encourage this type of behavior. Lol
  2. Thanks ! Thats very informative. I just bought a king 16 so I don't need another saw but if it were a deal I'd have jumped on it.
  3. This rbi hawk is for sale about an hour from me. I'm not in the market so much for a scrollsaw but if it's a good deal and or a good saw I'd consider picking it up. I don't know much about them.
  4. I started out with a little less than 3/4 of an inch thick cypress.
  5. I was in lowes yesterday and saw this same stuff. I started to grab a piece just to try it but ended up not getting it. Good to know that it's not bad. Might have to give it a try.
  6. I think many are thinking too much into it. It was just a neat idea that cost very little to do and gave you a general idea of how much "saw on" time a project took. I think if someone wanted to know total project time you'd need a different approach. Maybe a stop watch and a notepad or excel spreadsheet with each step broken out. That sounds like an awful lot of effort though. The clock idea requires very little effort. I set it at 12 when I start and that's it. From there it's just recording with no input from me. Then at the end I can say "that took 5 hours of cutting, and that's not even counting prep and sanding or finishing" which is good enough for me. I do like the idea of sharing this info though, just for fun.
  7. This seemed fitting.
  8. Nice work ! I like it.
  9. One reason is when I cut out an intricate fretwork project with a ton of separate cuts and show it off to friends and/or family I inevitably get asked "how long did that take?" I know that I could just throw a number out there or say not long or a long time but it'll be neat to say that I know how long it took. But the main reason I think is just curiosity for me. Although someone pointed out it could be handy for knowing how long you've been using a blade or knowing when to service you saw. I just kind of like tinkering with gadgets too I guess. This isn't for everyone but a few people have liked the idea so it was worth sharing.
  10. I have an Etsy shop... I know this all too well. Shipping is calculated into the cost and that's fine, I just look at the total cost when comparing a "free shipping" product to a paid shipping product. In this instance Mike's with "free shipping" was cheaper than Bear Woods with shipping added separately. The difference being one was FD and the other Pegas. I know that it's largely a preference thing, I even mentioned that in the original post. I was just looking for a good discussion on price versus quality versus customer service and I wasn't disappointed. You guys delivered just that. I learned a lot from this discussion and appreciate everyone's input.
  11. I love it. I might need more clocks now too.
  12. In case anyone was wondering. Since my post I've wracked up almost 2 hours of cut time. Sure seemed like more. Lol
  13. This is what I noticed too. Not sure if I said it right but that's what I meant. I'd been just ordering but today I decided to look and it was cheaper.
  14. Awesome information, I didn't know any of this. Thanks !!
  15. Thanks! This was a super helpful comment. Exactly what I was asking about and wanted to hear. I ended up going with Mike's this time around but I'll keep what you said in mind for the next order, makes a lot of sense.
  16. I went with Flying Dutchman and free shipping. We shall see if there's a difference that I can notice.
  17. I didn't expect that it would be for everybody. Just something I thought was neat. I guess I'm kind of into gadgets though. Glad to hear that at 80 you're still scrolling, I think congratulations are in order for that, so congratulations on that. I sure hope I am still at it in 38 more Years.
  18. So, I know I'm probably opening up a can of worms here. And I also know that this subject is highly relative to preference and opinion. But that being said, I'm wondering where everyone is ordering blades from and if there's really much difference between Pegas and Flying Dutchman. The reason I ask is that I was about to click purchase on some blades from Bearwoods (I've placed several orders before) and this time it struck me that the shipping was a little high so I thought I'd see what else was out there and compare. I went to Mike's Workshop and the blades are around the same price but shipping is free. The difference is Mike's is Flying Dutchman and Bear woods is Pegas. Come out of your corners swinging but let's have a fair fight. LOL
  19. Good info. Thanks. I agree 100% with the wood moving. I think that would be a concern. I'm blessed to have an air-conditioned shop where the humidity and temperature stays at a fairly consistent level but others might not have that set up. I'm also in South Louisiana so cold isn't an issue. We're lucky if we get a couple of weeks in the 40's each year.
  20. Mine is mounted to a countertop made out of 2x4's (think butcher block) lined up and glued together with 3/4 plywood on top and bottom. The counter is screwed to the wall and has 2x6 legs. It's not moving at all. LOL It's not really a problem. I didn't mean for it to sound like it was an issue. My saw is butter smooth and I love it. I'm just pointing out a little quirky thing that happens at a certain speed. Thought it would be interesting to see if everyone had that experience.
  21. This is the wording I was looking for. Is that what it is? Might be. It's a small window between 70% and 80% or so. Then it's great again. I just work below or above that speed. Not a big deal at all. Just a peculiar thing that I wondered about. Sometimes it's good to ponder. Lol
  22. I love the look of cedar and have always loved the smell of cedar.
  23. I'm glad you guys understand what I meant. I wasn't sure if it came across right. I wasn't complaining. I'm happy with my saw. There's just a little spot where it vibrates more. I was just curious if this was the same for everyone.
