  1. Wow, that's a tough regimen...
  2. I cut out some small figures with basic pine boards and applied a few coats of some wipe on poly to give it more depth without making it too dark like a stain does. Haven't tried it with BB plywood yet but wondered if anyone uses wipe on poly for any of their projects.
  3. The plate stand is nice but I didn't want anything to show on the front, like with an easel back on a picture frame...
  4. I string wire across the back of my latest projects and like the simplicity of the sharp corners of the natural baltic birch plywood color. Thought about framing one or two but didn't think it wouldn't look as nice. I also considered making some kind of easel back so there would be an option to shelf display the item. Gifting one of them might pose a problem if they don't want to put any holes in their walls. I feel the project isn't truly finished after the cutting is done but when it's ready to display. What do you do???
  5. I hear ya about what happens when you go faster. I get on a roll feeding and turning and all is right with the world, until it isn't. Gotta work on my speed and steering a bunch more!
  6. Even though I have good seating and posture, if I sit for more than a few hours my OLD back let's me know that's too long. I worked a few hours on "Missed Opportunities" another Steve Good design yesterday and a few today to finish it. I'm quite sure seasoned scrollers could have knocked it out in half the time but hopefully I will get faster as I keep practicing. At least I haven't ruined anything "yet"
  7. Greetings Darryl I started woodworking a little late in life trying to figure out what area I like the best. I'm starting to get the hang of scrolling and haven't messed anything up yet but I work at a snail's pace until I build more experience. I have proper seating and posture but my old back pays the price if I sit for too long.
  8. Thanks for the info.
  9. After the pattern is mounted and the holes are drilled (probably not correctly) I stare at it wondering where to begin. I know there has to be a formula or something. I don't want to have a small area not supported from removing a larger section. Being new at this, I find myself cutting the most difficult area first in case i make a mistake and ruin it. Hate to have it enter the flames when it was almost finished.
  10. Luckily Home Depot and Lowe's are good about taking online orders back at their retail locations. Replaced two table saws, a bench and spindle sander without any hassle. Although I don't like spending big money on tools, I've decided it's not worth the time and agravation trying to work with inferior ones. My last two purchases were Dewalt and super happy with the quality and ease of use. I worked in retail management for "many" years and today's so called customer service is pathetic!
  11. The retail store didn't have very much plywood and what they had was rough looking. I thought ordering through Amazon I wouldn't have any problems doing a return but I just didn't see that fine print about the drawbacks dealing with third party sales. Amazon was no help since they just collect your money. Trying to learn how to use my new scroll saw and things like this are not helping me want to pursue it. Live and learn..
  12. I started to file a dispute with my bank but the procedure and paperwork involved was just too much B S to add more insult to injury. I don't do Facebook but I did write a few reviews. Since it was through Amazon I have a shipping label to print. Basically I could return the wood and (Subject to their approval) they MIGHT issue a refund LESS shipping costs... I'm tempted to save up some trinkets from my 3 dogs and ship THAT in the box with their prepaid label. I'd still be out $50 but a few pounds of turds would make a statement
  13. So I started looking through the 9 pieces of Baltic birch plywood (scroll saw package) I received from Woodcraft and was upset to find warped pieces, some you couldn't tell which was supposed to be the "good" side and a few that had sanding pigtails on the surface. ? $13.99 shipping to get it and they want another $13.99 to ship it back. The retail store wouldn't take it back either. So I'n now the owner of a $50 box of firewood. Should have known better to buy wood online..................................
  14. Band saw...
  15. Being 71 and smoked for 45 years and not just cigarettes, and still kicking, I figured a little fine wood dust probably won't be enough to take me out!
  16. Just not a fan of mineral spirits because I like the light color of the BB plywood and the mineral spirits darkens it. That's why I wondered if denatured alcohol would remove the glue residue and dry without changing the wood color.
  17. I used 3M Super 77 on poplar wood. Used painter's tap since. Have a roll of the clear shelf liner but it's a pain to work with curling and trapping a bubble. Guess I'll continue to use blue tape and try to find a smaller drill bit.
  18. The last time I glued a pattern directly to the wood I used mineral spirits to remove it and it was difficult to remove the film left behind without sanding it away. Denatured alcohol instead??
  19. Have I reached a limit for too many qeestions yet? The smallest drill bit i have is 1/16 and on small cuts it's hard to see a line with the template frayed. Is packing tape used to prevent this or do I just need a smaller bit? Wondered what the purpose was for covering the project with it.
  20. Being a brand new scroller, I'm slowly learning and wondered if I wasted money buying Woodcraft's 9 pc scroll saw pack? 2 1/8" 2 1/4" 1 3/8" 1 1/2" all 12x12 I've only tried using 1/4" before and wondered what the other sizes could actually be used for... 1/8" seems pretty thin. Sorry for all of the questions but this place seems to be the right place to ask them. Let me know when I'm being a pest!
  21. Thanks That's not bad but was wanting something with more detail...
  22. Man there's a pretty steep learning curve to scrolling. Guess I should change out blades more often. I've sat on my but for hours using the same blade and wondered why it was getting difficult to follow a line. I have a variety of brands, styles and sizes to choose from so I need to experiment more. I have A D D so projects of any kind are a challenge for me. I start something and I feel the need to rush and finish. I was hoping scrolling would help but I'm not sure. I have a foot switch and find myself pushing really hard on it as I'm cutting a tight delicate area so until my experience level is higher, its not a relaxing hobby, yet!
  23. So you may change blade sizes with in the same design?
  24. Sorry for asking so many questions... How many blade on average do you use on a design? Do you use different size blades on the same design ?
  25. Didn't see any on Steve's site. Don't do Facebook
