  2. Roly it must be the Coke, I can't see anything either Les
  3. I feel for you Doc. I did two craft markets over the weekend, the early Saturday morning market was a flop, I spent more money on coffee there then what I made in sales, (coffee may still bankrupt me yet) but did get three orders which I hope to have ready before next weekend, so it was not a total loss. and in the afternoon the wind came up and nearly blew us away at the second market, I did at least cover stall costs there, and then when we were packing up the late afternoon the organizers refunded our stall costs in lew of wind we had to put up with, which was a first for me. Have not made my first million yet but working hard at getting it How does the saying go "Another day another dollar million days millionaire" Les.
  4. Greetings to all my fellow scrollers, I dont know if this idea has come up before in any of the forums, I was busy cutting some 6mm ply and got the idea to cut a good straight line, what I did was clamp a true straight edge to the scroll saw, and using a FD #3 spiral flat end blade and the straight edge a a guide, got a neat result, the blade can be used from all sides just by moving the straight edge to a different angle. hope someone can make use of the idea. Les.
  5. Hi Tim, Welcome from a cold and windy Durban South Africa, Sorry about the Rugby Les.
  6. I use CA glue when I do stack cutting on ply, a tiny drop on each corner between layers clamp for a few seconds and away I go, the glued corners are going to be waste anyway, saves time taping all the layers together. Les.
  7. Ditto to the above advice, nice first project, you are going to have a lot of fun scrolling, enjoy!

" so many ideas and so few hours in a day. Thanks again Les
  10. Thanks for the advice folks, I have taken note of your suggestions, I was thinking along the lines of the "Brush script mt" font but with more body to the letters as I want it to be able to hold its self together without a supporting underline as it will be {hopefully} about 600mm (24inches) in length. it needs to look "girly" it's for my niece. Thanks. Les.
  11. Greetings from South Africa, I was wondering if any of you good folk out there could help me out, I am looking for a font that can be used for word art, I need ideas for a flowing type font not too box like, the fonts I have checked on dafont.com are not quite what I am looking for, ok! I have not checked them all, as there are literally hundreds of them, I was hoping that I could take a short cut and maybe get some help or push in the right direction from a kind fellow scroller , any help would be gratefully appreciated. Thanking you. Les.
  12. Hi Dan, welcome from Durban South Africa, I am sure you will feel at home here among scrolling friends it's a great place to be. Les.
  13. You are in my prayers
  14. Good morning all, hope your day/night is going well, I need a bit of advice on finishing off projects, I have been finish coating my projects by hand which is a real pain in the neck, and was wondering, as to what route I should go in getting a spray system, I don't have loads of space in my work shop, I was thinking of getting either a airless spray gun or an air brush, can anyone pass on a bit of their expertise as to my request. Thanking you Les.
  15. Hi Lorn, welcome to the Village and from South Africa, you will find very helpful folk here, as I myself have found. Enjoy and happy scrolling. Les.
  16. Congratulations, grand children are good for the soul.
  17. The farmers market went well yesterday, had very good general sales, and sold all the toy cars and trucks I had, got such a lick out of watching the little folk, get all excited, on seeing the toys, these little guys knew just what they wanted, the Mom's and Dad's ideas did not count for them, I purposely set up a section for the toys at half the height of the table and I think that did the trick. Although I was bushed after spending over half a day there, got back and started cutting again for next week, cars and trucks are made from 6mm marine ply and are clear sealed. Sorry cant show them here still trying to find out how to upload some pics.
  18. Well done a nice cutting, Joe must be pleased.
  19. It's o4h15 in the morning this side, and pitch dark outside, packed the van for market, having a quick mug of coffee, and then I am off, to a farmers market to be se up by 06h30, Gee! why do farmers have to start so early. Thank goodness I live on the east coast of South Africa which is sub tropical and the winters are really mild. You guys and gals out therehave a good and blessed day/night. Les.
  20. Thanks to all you folks for the advice to my problem with the tension bolt, the supplier sent a replacement bolt at no cost to me, well I had a look at the new part and saw that is is bound to end up doing the same thing by stripping the thread again. thread on the bolt is loose on the nut, no wonder it has stripped twice, and is bound to strip again. I took the advice and I went the do it myself route and made the bolt from threaded HT steel ground the nut to fit, and it is now working like a dream. I am going to notify the company (Jet) that I think that their tension bolt is poorly made, and that they need to improve the quality control of the product, Thanks again to all. Les.
  21. Thanks Folks, I appreciate the feed back, I think I will go the fix it myself route and use a higher grade steel rod for this.I will keep you posted on how it turns out. Thanks again. Les.
  22. Greetings from South Africa to all fellow scrollers out there, I have a problem and need some advice, I bought a new jet jss16 in January of this year well the machine had not clocked more then 30 hours working over a period of four months, then in early June the tension bolt thread stripped, and a couple of other things that were faulty I notified the importer/dealer who is from another city here, they collected the saw and took it back to their store, they then told it was that the tension bolt was over thghtened, (Wow I never knew my fingers were that strong) anyway they replaced the machine which I received three weeks ago, and low and behold the first time I got a chance to do some scrolling again cutting a cross in 6mm ply the tension bolt again stripped and this was in no way over tightened, well I again contacted the dealer, and have been told they will supply me with a new tension bolt at no cost to me (big deal) I wanted a refund but am being given the run around in that regard Now the advice I am asking is can the tension bolt be modified it is rather simple in design and is I think 6mm in diameter with a 5mm thread. I bought the Jet as it is I thought Swiss made, and on receiving the replacement saw I read on the carton MADE IN CHINA......WE do not have the choice of saws you guys overseas have Thanking you for any advice you guys out there can offer Les.
  23. I really like the effect the log gives, well done. Les.
  24. Edward sorry but I forgot to say, you have really great items on display, I take my hat off to you. Les.
  25. I have a stand/table at a local farmers/craft market which I man every Saturday morning, it is well attended weather allowing from 06h30 to 10h30, I find that sales are better around month end, I have found that folk spend better on practical items before they would on the more fancy items, but money is tight on this side of the world as I would guess it is on your side as well. Wooden toys get a lot of attention, I display them lower then table height so as to get the attention of the little folk and this works well for me, my only gripe is that a lot of the craft markets kill you with the price of the tables, and here I pay a quarter of the price that some markets ask, and to me craft means craft and not the made in China junk that is flooding everything. I do get a lot of sales outside of the market, only because folks have seen the items I sell on display at the market.
