  1. Nebraska - The Good Life is a pattern from BobScroll and the other two I borrowed most of the words from patterns by BobScroll. Thanks Bob.
  2. Thanks Marge. I like that one and intend to pay it a visit and acquire the pattern.
  3. Marge Believe it or not, I am into flying pigs - is yours a scroll saw pattern. I would love to see a picture of your flying pig and if it is a scroll saw pattern I would like to know where I can get it.
  4. Building a solid body electric guitar with grandson. Most difficult project I have ever attempted and still plenty of work to go as we only get a few hours each month. From never having worked with a power tool, he has now worked with a palm sander, a spindle sander, a scroll saw, a band saw, and a router.
  5. I like the plaque but the dedication is moving and heartwarming. You have compassion and the heart of a poet.
  6. Carl I am confident there is more whale out there for you and that you appetite has only been temporarily satiated. You would get bored without whale which needed consuming.
  7. I have done that pattern several times - great pattern and folks always love it. Thanks for sharing.
  8. Josh Everyone has their own preferences. I am lazy and unskilled so I do what is almost impossible to screw up. I put my finished piece in a bath of Natural Danish Oil, remove it to the paper Scot Shop Towel, wipe dry with another Scot Shop Towel, set on parchment paper, wipe dry again in about an hour, about 8 to 12 hours later do the same process, and then 8 to 12 hours later go over with 0000 steel wool and blow clean with the air compressor. It would be no fun doing all of this for a single items so I usually wait until I have anywhere from 8 to 12 pieces to do it. I just use a 9 x 11 cake pan to hold my Danish Oil and then pour in back in the can, wipe the pan dry and wait for next time. I almost exclusively do fretwork and word art with 5/8ths inch hardwood and this achieve a result which is simple and satisfactory for me. Good luck in finding what works best for you.
  9. Looks like paint Rob Roy will want.
  10. Love you and your work - travel safe and come back to us when you get home and settled. I am still anxious to see what you are going to do or the rest of the grandchildren and always remember - -
  11. Do not know what you have available in Scotland but Mike did a trademark/copyright of Flying Dutchman and had an exclusive American/Canadian dealership. The blades are actually manufactured by Niqua in Germany and Mike imported and labeled them Flying Dutchman. Anyone selling Flying Dutchman got them from Mike. You might be able to get the same blade under the Niqua name or some other name on your side of the pond.
  12. Great work Carl. I have mine on an outlet fixture which turns the vacuum on when I start the saw and then a seven second run to vacuum shut off when I shut the saw off. Never thought about a clapper - I kind of like the way the vacuum is set up for on and off, maybe use the clapper for the saw on/off??
  13. Welcome aboard. Enjoy the ride. There is no wrong side of the pond.
  14. Ray People put patterns on different ways. I am rather fixed on blue painters tape on the wood, then 3M 45 spray adhesive on the tape and then the pattern on top. You need to find what you are comfortable with. Whatever you do, I suggest you start with 3M 45 and then move up if you are not satisfied with it. 3M 77 is more expensive and I think a lot stronger than is needed and probably harder to clean up if it needs cleaned up. I have never had an issue with 3M 45.
  15. Marg I could not agree more. I have a branding iron for my work and the first line says "Done by Doug". The second line says "Live Long & Prosper". Again thanks to all for the comments.
  16. Well done. For $29 they are getting an absolute bargain.
  17. I am anything but fast - I have been a Trekie since the original television series. I have cut these many times for many people who share my regard for the series. This seemed an appropriate day to share them. Although I am not much of a pattern maker I have attached them if anyone wants to use them. I believe the hand is from a Steve Good pattern for a clock and sat over "Live Long & Prosper" which I enlarged and moved to the side. I will attach a picture of Steve's original work also. that is illogical.pdf live long and prosper.pdf Now that I look at it, I think all I borrowed from Steve was the hand and the wording was all done by me. Okay, actually went back and checked - here is the link to Steve's original pattern for those who are interested. http://www.stevedgood.com/livelong.pdf
  18. EX 21 - made in Taiwan - the big problem was teaching it English. Thanks for all of the kind comments. Our Chinese friends enjoyed the ones given them, a part of their comments were "the characters you selected are the most meaningful and valuable words in our lives, especially in our old age. We value "Friendship" and "Happiness" and we live by these words every day". With respect to happiness the comment was "By the way, this word/character itself is the most popularly used one in every happy occasions or celebrations. It pronouces as "fu", and it means "good fortune", "happiness", "blessed", "wellness". When it combines with another word (or words), it has more meanings, etc." Your comments and the comments from recipients just add to the inherent joy of scrolling and giving.
  19. I do the same as Dan - have not had a problem yet.
  20. Hans When all else fails, take comfort that it is warm where you are and tell yourself I am still wondering about those projects for the other grandchildren?
  21. The first one is a pattern by Roly - I am assuming it was from a picture of him in his youth. Thanks Roly, I really like the pattern. Two and three are by Joscroll and were done for some Chinese friends. The last one (picture came out blurred) is for friends who will celebrate their 50th this year.
  22. Bob I got it at Seyco http://www.seyco.com/category/saws.html Go to the web page and scroll down to "#DVA-02 Adjustable Vacuum Attachment". I took off the end and then adapted to PVC fittings. I think it is 3/4 inch ID.
  23. Dick The best way to show the support is to go the the banner at the top of the page, under "more" there is a drop down menu and the first item is "support SSV" . This is where you go to make a donation and have "SSV Patron" and "* Supporter" show up beneath your Avatar.
  24. Depending on your budget, I would go with the DeWalt 788 (making sure to do so when the stand and light are free) for around $500 http://www.rockler.com/dewalt-20-in-vs-scroll-saw-with-work-light-and-stand or the Excalibur 21 for around $900 with stand and free shipping or the Excalibur 16 for $685 with stand http://www.seyco.com/category/saws.html Both are good saws and I have both and would say each is worth what you are paying for them - the Excalibur being the better saw but the DeWalt still a very good saw. I would take either new over a 26 year old Hegner.
