Making ornaments for family and sales and stopped to take a few photos. Compound cuts are from Sue Mey, nativities are Steve Good patterns and the cookies are from cutters I don't use any longer. I used regular cookie sprinkles that were applied to wet paint and then affixed with semi-gloss lacquer. Comments, criticism and cajoling encouraged.

There's a bug in the most recent version of Inkscape where Union doesn't work the way you'd expect. Check out this tutorial for a workaround:$20 -
I was having problem with Inkscape and printing 11 x 17 ( I'm not alone ). The pattern for these is about 2/3 the original, and since I hate waste I'm using the pattern that I have. I had some 1/8 inch wood, so that's what I'm using. I don't know the species; blade FD Polar 2/0, pilot holes #71 drill bit ( .025 ), quarter for sca

Just finished this one, I saved all the dropouts and put all of it back together. I'm planning on this being a display at my booth this summer. 1/4 Inch thick material, FD Polar #1 blades, no finish yet. no idea what the wood is.

I read in a post somewhere (here, I think) where they recommended using a #7 or even a #9 skip tooth blade for cutting birdhouse ornaments so the sawdust would clear better. I am in the process of making a large batch of birdhouse ornaments, so I decided to give it a try. I had some #7 Flying Dutchman blades, so I tried these first. No joy. It cut much slower, a tiny bit rougher, and the blades did not last long. I could cut one or two birdhouses depending on the size before needing a new blade. I didn't have any #9 blades and ordered some Pegas skip tooth blades from Denny. Same result. They cut slower, a bit rougher, and the blades would only cut one or two birdhouses before I needed to change the blade. Last night I finished the birdhouses cutting them with #3 Pegas modified geometry blades that I was using before. The difference was dramatic. They cut at least five times faster than the skip tooth blades and lasted far longer. I cut ten ornaments with three blades, and this probably would have been two, but I had a catch that shortened the life of one blade. The wood I'm cutting is all poplar S4S square stock I bought at Lowes except one that I cut from pine to see if the wood made a difference. Am I missing or misunderstanding something? Why would the coarser skip tooth blade cut slower and dull faster?

How would you go about putting a hanger on these? The other birdhouse ornament is easy, but these have a deep recess in the top center where I would typically put a small screw eye.

Hi All. Last year, I created this custom ornament kit. It basically is a template that you can create personalized Christmas ornaments. Everybody seemed to really like it, so I created another version with all new designs for 2020! I like to think of it as a mini scroll saw business-in-a-box. With this kit, you can create as many custom ornament patterns as you want. You can easily personalize them with someone's name or date. You can sell your custom ornaments to friends and family, online places like Etsy, or for craft fairs and church bizarres. You can also sell custom patterns to your fellow scrollers! This is from Steve Good's newsletter. I had some 5' mirrors leftover from other projects and thought they would work here. I routed a recess in the back for the mirror and will secure it with some silicone. Probably add a piece of felt to the back to avoid scratches.

Just finished one of the ornaments designed by Montserrat as part of the Ornaments for Charity project. This was cut from 1/8" Baltic Birch. The inner part is layered. I cut that using a #1 FDUR blade with the table set at 12 degrees. I did use a wood burner to make it appear the tree is separate from the outer ring.

Halloween is over and Christmas is right around the corner. Scrollers are starting to think about gifts and patterns to cut for loved ones. But since the Holiday season is also about helping others in need, we're continuing our tradition here at Scroll Saw Village as a way to give back. This will be our 7th year of publishing an e-Book full of Christmas ornaments. This popular e-Book was featured in the Holiday 2014 issue of Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts magazine. Our ornaments designs are exclusive to this eBook and designed by SSV members. Anyone are can download the ebook in exchange for a donation to their favorite charity. Our hope is that we'd be able to raise some money for very worthy causes, and provide some cool patterns at the same time. But we need your help! So I'll need some volunteers to design some ornaments. Each designer will provide 5 patterns (no more, no less) I ask that the designs are not made available anywhere else (this gives value to the e-book) They have to be designed specifically by you (no posting other people's patterns) Designs must be emailed (or PM) to Travis by Wednesday, November 23rd (info below) A few things to keep in mind: Religious and secular designs are accepted. Other religions/traditions also celebrate this time of year, so lets not forget them. Keep detail and size appropriate for an ornament. Don't submit copyrighted or licensed patterns. The due date will sneak up on you quicker than you think. Get them to me ASAP. What do you get in exchange? Credit for your design. The warm fuzzy feeling that you're helping others in need. Submitting your ornaments: Email the ornaments directly to Travis (travis [at] scrollsawvillage.com) or PM me. Formats accepted are JPG, PNG. Please keep the pattern in black & White only (no gray) . That way I can convert them easier when putting together the ebook. I'll also accept Inkscape files (SVG). This is ideal if you know how to use Inkscape. That way there is no conversion.
