I am new to the scroll saw. I am using a borrowed Craftsman Contractor Series 20" scroll saw. A friend let me borrow it to see if I enjoy using it. It has been a lot of fun. The down side is I now want to get my own scroll saw. :o

After doing some practice on a scrap piece of 3/4 pine I designed the first project using a Mayan glyph as an inspiration. I used 3/4 inch pine about 7 X 7 inch as I liked the look of the heavy grain running across the design. After shaping I decided to use a small amount of color to define the different areas of the design. A light coat of acrylics airbrushed on the surface was applied before the pieces were glued up.

The second design is about 5" X 8" out of the same pine board. It is also my design. Since the pieces are small I decided to finish it with a clear gloss finish.

I guess these would be segmentation as I have not used different woods.

The first 2 photos are of my first project before coloring and glue.

The third photo is of the same project after airbrushing color.

The fourth photo is of my second project.

Any comments would be welcome!

Ray, I like how you shoot from the hip! Clear, concise, determined, dedication to a stunning first shot project. Work like this you need to advertize your talent right now! Never have I experienced a top of the line first project like this. You're better than the scroll saw for what that's worth! The different amount of quality skills here in the village is overwhelming. One thought i had a while back was to put all the great minds here in the village ,have a project everyone agrees on and take suggestions as to how to go about completing it.I'm sure it would be breathtaking.Looks like the  scroll saw bug gotcha good.By all means get a quality saw with creature comforts. They start at around $500 bucks.A foot switch, dust collection, great lighting ,magnification for high detail if need be,comfy chair and tilt your scroll saw so you look down on your work but not with your head straining. Were going to be in for quite a show here once your set up.Thanks for joining and WOWing us right from the start!
