BassBlaster Posted October 21, 2014 Report Posted October 21, 2014 Hey guys, been playing around with this scroll saw thing and Im having fun but definitely still learning. Been playing mostly with simple learning patterns. Id like to actually try cutting a real pattern now and thought it would be cool to make little signs for my kids to hang on their bedroom doors or walls or something. Im looking for something really simple that a beginner could do. Im thinking their name with an interest included somehow. My daughter for example likes dance so maybe her name and a ballerina silhouette. You get the idea. So if anyone has the time to make super simple patterns for me, Id greatly appreciate it! Brystal - dance Tim - baseball Colton - trucks/cars, etc. Quote
rjR Posted October 21, 2014 Report Posted October 21, 2014 (edited) Hi Dennis, Find appropriate silhouettes patterns on line or have a friend draw some up. Then cut the letters for the names. Use rectangular pieces of cardboard the sizes that you intend to use; draw the letters, cut out with scissors and just draw around them on the wood you are going to use. When done they can be glued on to the premade-and painted background. Try folding the cardboard in 1/2 or sometimes 1/4 for some of the letters, an O is easier to cut on the cardboard folded to 1/4 --just cut that much and unfold for the full O. Hope this helps. Consider the shape of the letters. Some get folded horizontally (H)--some vertically (B, C, D, for examples). When you are going to use a tail on just part of(like a c) cut it off after the letter is already cut. You can even just enlarge computer letter to paper then using carbon paper transfer them to the wood. Then pre-paint only the front to give the glue a better chance! The pattern library here should have the backgrounds you need! Find his favorite car for a silhouette , example the 555-57 Ford T Birds---- very unique side view- for an example! don in brooklin on Posted October 21, 2014 Report Posted October 21, 2014 For those sports where they give out ribbons I have made name plates with pegs. The finished product is shown below with a baseball pattern. For the truck lover I have a pattern that also has pegs that the Grand kids use in their rooms. PM me with your email address and I can send you PDFs or if you use Inkscape I have the SVG's Don BassBlaster, Phantom Scroller and bobscroll 3 Quote
