Dan Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 I decided to take to the task of enclosing my basement shop. I am using one existing wall and will build 3 walls. I plan to do this in 3 phases. I'm happy to say phase 1 is complete...one wall is up. I built the frame (measure twice, cut once worked well), a 7' by 14' wall. I hung the drywall, mudded, and sanded it. This is the area that I need much improvement, but it will come with the other walls. I cut holes and hung 2 outlets. Since these are for my tools I decided to play it safe and go with a 30 amp breaker and 10 guage wire. The best part was seeing the two green lights on the circuit tester. Here are some pictures. Multifasited Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 Dan you will love it ,smart on the electrical ,my first advice ,put in twice as many out lets as you think you will ever need ,and in the ceiling as well if possible. You will probabally have enough ,but they will be in the (wrong places ,trust me ) . like clamps and glue you never have too many ! Second is a 4 foot door or doubles . Third caster everything possible ,benches , tables & tools you will only use off and on ! Best unsolicted advice I can give .Good luck ,large undertaking , Enough lite to grow things ! Be looking forward to you will be very proud of !! Carl Doug 1 Quote
wombatie Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 Oh Dan you have me green with envy. I wish I had a basement, I would so LOVE one. Carls advise seems very wise take note otherwise you may be kicking yourself later on. Marg Quote
Rob Roy Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 You're doing a very professional job there Dan, very impressive. I think you should take some of Carl's advice too. Bet you can't wait to get it all up and running. . Rob Roy. Quote
Dan Posted January 27, 2015 Author Report Posted January 27, 2015 Thanks everyone. Carl, I have thought of all your tips except the door. Each wall will have two 4-outlet boxes. The block wall in the back will get the same. I will either put one or two in the ceiling. All tools that are not on benches have casters, except my sander but that will also get a set. I have four 4-foot,2-bulb light fixtures now and place to double that.I will have to readdress the door. Thanks for the tips. Quote
LarryEA Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 Gaining experience is always good.. and improving your shop is good also. Quote
Doug Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 Great plan - I will try and will do a lot of things I have never done before but drywalling, mudding, and sanding are not on my list of things I will ever attempt. I will fix drywall holes with spackle but that is as far as I will go. Quote
Multifasited Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 Doug ,twer me ,I would go with OSB 1/2" ,ain't as pretty but sure is more funtional for adding shelves ,changing things, mounting vac systems or what ever, just remember shiny side out !TeeHee Doug 1 Quote
