tennman Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 Hi all..I'm not new to using a scrollsaw or some of the others for that matter but I am new to using a program called gimp,I made a lot of errors trying different things with it before I found a video on u-tube from one of the guys from this site, anyway what I would like to know is there anyway to reset gimp to where its just like you installed it so I can start over with the whole thing maybe this time knowing a little more about how to use it...thanx Quote
Travis Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 To reset Gimp's preferences to default: Open Gimp Click on Edit> Preferences From any tab, click on the "Reset Button" at the bottom of the dialog box. It'll ask you if you're sure. Click Reset button again and it should put everything back. Birchbark 1 Quote

tennman Posted February 5, 2015 Author Report Posted February 5, 2015 I did like you said but it didn't work out like I wanted so I deleted it and reinstalled the gimp and it came back for the most part, the toolbox is up on the screen again but under the tools it says( you can drop dockable items here) I want the the paint brush and some of the other tools to show the different sizes and tips that were on there before I messed it up.Sorry about saying some guy from here, his name is travis and the video's he put up on youtube are really great,I downloaded them and wrote then to a cd so I could put my laptop right next to my pc and watch him,the only thing he's not doing is holding my hand..hehee. I wish I would have watched and studied him doing this before I messed it up but I didn't and its aggravating getting it right again. AMAZINGSCROLLER...you might do better if you download the video's and put them on a cd for a reference to watch before everything goes awry, for some reason it don't go back like it did the first time I installed it but maybe you're better with it than I am?thanx for the help!!!! Travis Posted February 5, 2015 Report Posted February 5, 2015 On Lesson 3 at about 10:10 - 16:55, we talk about dialog boxes and how to dock them. Here's a link that takes you directly to that section: http://youtu.be/pok6OGoO_Lc?t=10m10s To dock a dialog, grab the tab name and drag onto the dockable area. This will add the tab to your docking area. Your Tool Options dialog box, which is default is located at Windows>Dockable Dialogs>Tool Options Brushes has different brush textures and preset sizes. It's located at Windows>Dockable Dialogs>Brushes Let me know if you are still having trouble or if I misunderstood what you're looking to do. Quote
tennman Posted February 10, 2015 Author Report Posted February 10, 2015 :)Hi all well I found out what the problem was,I thought it was me that had messed up gimp not so,I either got a corrupt version or it didn't down it all so I deleted it and downed it again and now I have everything working,a lot of the stuff that is in the video's was gone or not working but alls well now in fact I already made a portrait and I'm happy with it so thanx for all the help!!! what do you have to do if you want to use a 8x10 picture instead of a small one? Quote
Travis Posted February 10, 2015 Report Posted February 10, 2015 You'll have to copy your image into a new canvas that is the correct size. Then you'll scale your image to fit the canvas. You can check out Lesson 4. It is covered very early on in the video. The written instructions are listed under Creating Our Pattern Document. Let us know if you run into any troubles. Quote
jamminjack Posted February 10, 2015 Report Posted February 10, 2015 Hey Travis, I have a question. I have corel draw. I don't know too much about it. I see that you have made lessons for Gimp and inkscape. Have you ever put one together for Corel Draw? I would like to learn how to go about to make patterns. Not sue where to start. Thanks for your help in advance. Jamminjack Quote
loftyhermes Posted February 11, 2015 Report Posted February 11, 2015 Jamminjack, Steve Good has done a load of Coreldraw videos. https://www.youtube.com/user/sdgood/videos happy scrolling Steve Quote
Travis Posted February 11, 2015 Report Posted February 11, 2015 I agree with loftyhermes. Steve Good might be the best resource for that. I know he's done a lot of tutorials on Corel Draw. I'm not sure if he's done a classroom style series or not. Most of the techniques I describe in Inkscape are the same in Corel Draw. The buttons might be in different locations or called different things. These videos take a huge amount of time to produce, so I tend to focus on software that's easily available for everybody (IE, free. ) I know there's other Corel Draw users here. If you run into a roadblock, I'm sure someone would be able to point you in the right direction. Quote
