oldhudson Posted April 30, 2015 Report Posted April 30, 2015 I'm pretty sure some Scroll Saw Villagers own this unit.... and this may be a no brainer but I just figured out I could use 3" x 24" instead of the 4" x 24" that are standard for that unit. For the work I do the 3" works fine so I can save a couple bucks. ChelCass and Scrolling Steve 2 Quote

Scrappile Posted April 30, 2015 Report Posted April 30, 2015 Never thought of it. But for probably 90% of the item I do that would be very adequate. Thanks or the tip. Quote
Lucky2 Posted May 12, 2015 Report Posted May 12, 2015 But, by using the narrower belt, you partially defeat the oscillating function of the sander. Plus, most of the times I use the belt sander part, I want all of the width I can get. Is there really that much difference in price of the belts, that a person would start buying the narrower ones? What I do, once I've used the belt for so long is, I flip the belt so the top becomes the bottom and the bottom becomes the top. Len Quote

Doing this will make the machine run backwards!! oneleggimp 1 Quote

Len At one on-line bookmarked place I purchase supplies, the difference is 31% or $1.20 US, for a single 100 grit Al Ox. Is that a big deal, I guess that depends on your budget and how much you use. Turning belts over only works if you have omnidirectional belts. Quote
Lucky2 Posted May 13, 2015 Report Posted May 13, 2015 Scrappile, there is no way possible to run this machine in reverse, or backwards. I may be running the belt in the opposite direction of what is indicated on the back of most belts, but, my belts don't have any markings to signify forward or reverse. I'm not sure of the brand, or, even where to buy them. They were given to me by a cabinet shop owner that was closing up his shop. He bought everything in bulk, because it was so much cheaper. Everything came in large brown boxes, with little to any markings on them. Len Quote
Lucky2 Posted May 13, 2015 Report Posted May 13, 2015 Old Hudson, my belts must be omnidirectional then, cause, they work perfectly fine no matter which way I install them. Len Quote
