I made this cedar plaque with maple inlay for a house warming gift.  8 1/2" x 11" x 3/8" thick.  Finished with two coats of shellac, sanding with 500 grit between coats and a final two coats of a spray on clear finish from a rattle can.  Took about three hours plus drying time for the finish.  Once you get into doing inlay it is very quick to do.  Not always so easy though.

Plaques like this are quick and easy to do.  When I make boxes with inlaid images I spend 90% of the time it takes in making the box.    I have made a years supply of boxes ready for sale. Over 300  So I am looking for other things to make like this plaque.  I have recently made five  metal stars (26" and 38") and am working on two walking sticks/canes of cedar and pecan. Also cut this ankh from walnut.  2" tall x 3/8" thick.post-2247-0-12458300-1431516586_thumb.jpg
