wombatie Posted August 24, 2015 Report Posted August 24, 2015 My poor husband turned 65 in July. He has never suffered ill health, just the yearly cold ,cough and flu. He takes one tablet a day for blood pressure. Anyhow about 3 weeks before his birthday he suffered sever pains in his side, he had x rays, ultra sound and eventually a Gastroscopy. All came back showing nothing except a Grade one Reflux and a Hiatus Hernia, neither of which would cause his pain. Then he went to the dentist for his 6 month check up and was told that he needed a filling. He was devastated because he has never had a filling before ever. Then he got a kit from Bowel Cancer Screening Australia which he did and sent it away. The Doctor rang and said he needed to go in to see him ASAP. Turns out he had a positive result, now he's to have a Colonoscopy on the 9th September. And finally because he's been having problems with his knees the Doctor sent him for x rays last week, now he is on a waiting list to see a specialist to maybe have a knee reconstruction. He is so depressed because nothing seems to be going his way since he became 65 that he says 65 ITUS STINKS. Marg ChelCass 1 Quote

Kepy Posted August 24, 2015 Report Posted August 24, 2015 All I can say is welcome to the over 60 club. The colonoscopy is not fun but not too bad. I am going through the same problems with my knees but rather than reconstruction, my Dr. prescribed braces for me and they really do help the pain. Got them at the medical supply and they charged my insurance over $100 each, then found out I could have gotten the same thing at WalMart for $25. amazingkevin and wombatie 2 Quote
ike Posted August 24, 2015 Report Posted August 24, 2015 I have had a bad year this year at age 73, Went to the VA and they said they thought I had prostate cancer but at my they wouldn't do any thing about it. well I told them what I thought of them and went to a civilian doctor and he said yes that is my problem but he is going to check out every thing else, Well he found that I had Bladder cancer, Talk about depressing try two different cancers at the same time. That was 3 years age and all the cancers are gone, But the VA couldn't do any thing about it. I now just go in for my hearing aids. ell your husband it isn't always as bad as you think. bobscroll and wombatie 2 Quote

Congratulations on being cancer free. I can imagine it being a mighty kick in the backside finding out you had 2 different cancers at the same time. You must have had a positive attitude to manage to beat it. Marg Quote
