I had the pleasure of communication with tech support for one of the computer security folk whom I have had for years. No problems. recently my lap top had a illness and would not do anything and was blank and all I could do was set it at the original factory setting which happened. I went to Microsoft store and asked since all was wiped out what to do. He showed me how to start down loading all Microsoft updates which took hours but was done and I started getting some favorites back. I noted I could not find my program for the virus security company I paid for was not in my programs and kept getting ads for the original company that comes with the laptop. Any who I call the tech support since I was paid in full and they looked and said the program isn't in the computer Dah. Well there was updates from their company but all were blocked. The tech manager they wanted to send me to higher up the line where they could fix the problem by cleaning up the computer and would only cost $199 to do this and then each year if I wanted to keep it under control. I told him I would go to the Micro soft store and have then take a look. He did a little back pedaling and said they might help but this guy could do it while I sit in my home. I refused and he gave me his name and #. I went to the store and this nice young man  listened to what I told him and 2 things I understood him (Indian is not my second language ) and I understood what he wanted me to do. Simply put because I had to set to factory specs all was removed and replaced to factory. My security that I had was not compatible with the original security so blocked the updates. Went to Web site and downloaded my program in 5 minutes problem solved. Cost $0. Microsoft said this is a scam and done often. Well I saved 200 unfortunately my wife had a similar run in with windows but for 500 dollars. I will not make this longer but can fill in later. Big thing don't believe every thing a trusted company may be doing that you would not think they would do, Lesson learned. sorry for length.

I caught my wife in the midst of one of these calls, she wouldn't tell me who she was talking to fight away. But, I caught on as soon as she went to get her credit card. I then took the phone out of her hand and told the person on the other end to *^#* off and to not bother us any more. After hanging up my wife and I had a long chat, she guarantees me that she will no longer do anything regarding computer specifics.
