Kris Martinson Posted February 10, 2016 Report Posted February 10, 2016 I know that this isn't wood-related, but I had some "throw-away" glass panes and a Dremel and a pattern.....so.... I gave it a shot. This is my grandson. lawson56, Scrolling Steve, Jim Finn and 2 others 5 Quote

rjR Posted February 10, 2016 Report Posted February 10, 2016 Very interesting! Nice work. I do like it well; even resembles my youngest grandson a lot! Most of us are really not limited to wood. We make our own patterns. We fix things. We modify our tools to work the way we want them too. And we live -- Please the person in the mirror; if others like it = fine and if they do not +++WHO CARES! Kris Martinson 1 Quote
kywoodmaster Posted February 10, 2016 Report Posted February 10, 2016 Looks great. How about more information on the process. Did you use diamond burrs or sanding sleeves ect.? Kris Martinson 1 Quote

This is my grandson. Beautiful work Kris, and very unusual. A good likeness of your Grandson too. Hope you didn't use the Dremel in the surgery Rob Roy. Quote

oldhudson Posted February 10, 2016 Report Posted February 10, 2016 Tell us more about the process please. Quote
Kris Martinson Posted February 11, 2016 Author Report Posted February 11, 2016 OK. since there were some requests as to the process, here it is. First I made the pattern and taped it to the underside of the glass pane, so I could see the pattern through the glass. I used a green stone to do the "etching", just following the pattern. When I finished, the etched areas looked too light to me and I didn't like the effect, so I rubbed all the etched areas with pencil lead (graphite) to make it light grey so it would show up better. It was all so simple, that it feels like cheating. Quote
Kepy Posted February 11, 2016 Report Posted February 11, 2016 (edited) Nicely done. I used to many yrs ago do a little glass carving and you can apply paint to the areas, let dry then clean up with a razor blade to give it more depth. Meant to mention that you can use dentist drill bits in a dremel to do the etching. Edited February 11, 2016 by Kepy Quote

spirithorse Posted March 4, 2016 Report Posted March 4, 2016 Very nice! Is that tempered glass like from picture frames or does it have to be glass used for stained glass projects?I appreciate your showing us and thanks a lot for the info. God Bless! Spirithorse Quote
