kywoodmaster Posted February 19, 2016 Report Posted February 19, 2016 Yea the golden years. I have a pair of glasses for everyday use, I have a pair for Computer use, I have a pair of sunglasses with bifocals, a pair for the scroll saw and a pair for really close stuff. Wish I could get one pair that will do it all. O well I am still on the top side of the dirt. StephenD 1 Quote
wombatie Posted February 19, 2016 Report Posted February 19, 2016 Yeah Golden years I am having to get my glasses changed every 6 months at the moment because my eyes keep changing, so I can only have bifocals and computer glasses can't afford to change sunglasses and to have my everyday glasses change to sunglasses when I'm out. I cannot recognize anyone over 2 meters away at the moment, off to be tested next week again. Then I'll be again. Marg Quote
Lucky2 Posted February 19, 2016 Report Posted February 19, 2016 Good for you Dave, I can't read or see anything up close since I had cataracts removed in Nov. I have new glasses, and they are fantastic. My issue is that since the surgery, I now see double or what might be called dropped numbers/letters. When I try to read anything, I see the sentence fine, but, the letters look like one is on top of the other. It's really affected anything I do, especially, seeing scroll saw pattern lines and reading anything. I've only used my scroll saw once since the surgery in early november, it was a real struggle to complete the project. To read the postings here, or, to read anything else I have to do it with one eye closed. Len Quote

Len Have you thought of putting a patch over one eye while you are working but alternate so that you are not using one more than the other? Just a thought. Marg Quote
Lucky2 Posted February 19, 2016 Report Posted February 19, 2016 No Marg, I've never thought of using a patch. I can see perfectly fine, except for reading or for doing other close up projects like scrolling. It's an issue with the new lenses they implanted, I haven't had a chance to talk to the eye surgen yet. I was told I had to wait for so long, to see if things got better with new glasses. The waiting period is now over, and I'm starting to get very annoyed with the situation. Len P.S. Marg, what is causing you to have issues with your eyes? Hopefully, they can find you some relief, going blind is not good. I can say that, because I was blind at one time in my life. I was sitting in class at school, then all of a sudden I felt a real sharp pain go from one side to the other of my head left to right. As soon as the sharp pain passed and I opened my eyes, I was completely blind. The blindness lasted for thirteen very very long days. The Drs. could not find any issues, and all they did was admit me into the hospital for observation purposes. On the thirteenth day my vision returned to be 20/20, it returned the same way as it first started, except the pain went in the opposite direction. It was as bad as it was the first time, and it started on the righthand side and went to the left. There never was an answer, as to why or how this happened. Personally, it was the scariest thing to ever happen to me. Quote

jerry1939 Posted February 19, 2016 Report Posted February 19, 2016 Lucky2, A couple decades ago, I had a detached retina. Ended up with double vision similar to what you are describing. After knocking some sense into the eye doctors, they took my word for it. Put a prism in that lens, which cured it, but it was like the bottom of a coke bottle for thickness. Also, the frame around it wasn't designed for that thickness and it would sometimes pop out. 10 years ago, a different eye doctor split the difference & put "half the prism" in each lens. Problem solved & I'm now a happy camper. Hope this helps Friend. jerry Lucky2 1 Quote
Lucky2 Posted February 20, 2016 Report Posted February 20, 2016 Thanks Jerry, I'm not sure of what to expect from the Dr. Len Quote

Vicki my optom. just puts lenses into her machine and goes slowly through them and i tell her when to stop because sometimes my eyes seem to be heading into the 20 / 20 bracket other times they are heading in the other direction. This only started to happen since i have been developing cataracts. At the moment I am sitting at the computer without any glasses and as long as I stay about 2' away I can see but maybe tomorrow I will have my computer glasses on and be about 6 inches from the screen, who knows. All I know is I am fed up with it and so is my bank account.. Marg Quote
Lucky2 Posted February 21, 2016 Report Posted February 21, 2016 Marg, why don't you have the cataracts removed, it would be cheaper in the long run wouldn't it? I don't imagine that changing glasses all that often, is very easy on the pocketbook either. Len Quote
