Dan Posted April 9, 2016 Report Posted April 9, 2016 Spring shows were always a bust for me too. I stopped doing them. It's a good thing for wives. Sorry I didn't stop by. Went grocery shopping with the wife...3 hours I will never get back. Quote
LarryEA Posted April 9, 2016 Report Posted April 9, 2016 Ike, that's $20 off your next Wooden Teddy Bear purchase. Quote
Lucky2 Posted April 9, 2016 Report Posted April 9, 2016 Sorry it wasn't a better day for you Ike, at least you made a few bucks. Len Quote
orangeman Posted April 10, 2016 Report Posted April 10, 2016 Ike, look into better shows. I won't do a show unless it gives me a return where the booth fee is at least 10% of sales. According to other vendors I have talked to that is the minimum guideline. bb Quote

Ron Johnson Posted April 10, 2016 Report Posted April 10, 2016 Ike ... Didn't you know it was PENNY DAY ... Lol Trade shows are so unpredictable. Hopefully your next show is more productive. Quote
EarltheScroller Posted April 10, 2016 Report Posted April 10, 2016 I agree that Spring shows are tough. I did my first one this year and it was not great. I share a table with a potter and she didn't sell one item! So glad you and your wife came out OK. Quote
Phantom Scroller Posted April 10, 2016 Report Posted April 10, 2016 That was $20 more than me Ike. I did a big ZERO. Better luck next time I say . Roly Quote
ike Posted April 10, 2016 Author Report Posted April 10, 2016 I don't know why i keep doing these spring sales. My wife likes them I guess it's because she always beats me at them. when I saw snow on the ground I told my wife it was going to be a bad day. Phantom Scroller 1 Quote
Jim Finn Posted April 10, 2016 Report Posted April 10, 2016 My first scheduled show was yesterday but was rained out. That is a spring problem here in West Texas. I have another next Saturday....hope it does not rain again. Quote
orangeman Posted April 10, 2016 Report Posted April 10, 2016 Snow will do it every time We always have a great show in Fairhope, AL (Mobile Bay) the third weekend in March. But then one year they closed the show a day early because of tornado threats. This year after set-up on Thursday night a bad storm system came through. 10% of the tents went down - mostly EZ-UPs and similar. Some artists lost all their work. It was a war zone Friday AM when we arrived. Fortunately we have an aerodynamically designed tent with 40# of weight in each corner. The tent only moved 6 inches as a result of the storm. But not only Spring shows can be a problem! All outdoor shows are risky, even Fall shows. In 2015 one of our good shows was cancelled in Western North Carolina because of flooding. And an August show in Cary, NC was cancelled because of a hurricane one year. Bottom line: outdoor shows are risky business but what are the choices? bb Quote
edward Posted April 10, 2016 Report Posted April 10, 2016 Glad you had a good show, anytime you make over the table is good. I'am with you sometimes I wonder why I do spring shows. One spring show I do you have to do both in order to keep your spot for the fall, as it is paid in advance. edward Quote
Denny Knappen Posted April 10, 2016 Report Posted April 10, 2016 We don't do shows, but I can feel for you. Sales at our store don't pick up until May. Quote

zimmerstutzen Posted April 11, 2016 Report Posted April 11, 2016 the only craft show I do is our Christmas Lion's club "greens sale". Everything club members make is donated and sold to raise money for the club projects. Wreaths, door banners, lathe turned holiday decorations and hopefully this season, some scroll work. Evergreen boughs come from members' woodlots; The wreaths I personally make are terrible. But the other decorations made by myself and the others sell well. Last November in 4 hours we raised over $800. BTW, our lions club "Greens Sale" is just the club at a little outdoor picnic area along a country highway. For this year, I designed a simple nativity scene to cut on diagonal log slices with a scroll saw. I aleady have some wood drying for the purpose. (Cedar, sassafras and poplar) While the members' items are donated for sale, those who make items for sale otherwise have their cards and tags attached. The public can contact them directly for future purchases Quote
