Paul hd Posted June 11, 2016 Report Posted June 11, 2016 Hi All. Recently Forum member Roly mentioned Corian and then somebody posted a beautiful Shell made from Corian. So I decided to get some. This Corian is nice to turn. The Red band is from a normal acrylic blank. I had to add it as the Corian blank was not long enough for the pen mechanism. I did mess up with my drilling. I went way off centre, but I decided to go ahead and turn it as a practice piece. Had to glue the black and white together. Added the Red band to make it a little longer. My drilling started off nice and straight. But didn't end on line. Never mind it is all good practice. I am happy with my first attempt with Corian. Next time I will hopefully have a straight drill hole down the centre of the blank. MTCowpoke22, amazingkevin, don watson and 2 others 5 Quote

Lucky2 Posted June 12, 2016 Report Posted June 12, 2016 Paul, that's an awfully good looking pen, I like the red band it gives a nice separation point. I'm not sure of how you go about drilling your blanks, but, if you cut your blank in half before drilling it, you will find it's a lot easier to keep on center. Len Paul hd 1 Quote
Scrolling Steve Posted June 12, 2016 Report Posted June 12, 2016 Very nice pen, love the colors ! Quote
Paul hd Posted June 12, 2016 Author Report Posted June 12, 2016 Hi Len. I totally agree. I should of drilled before the glue up. Normally I am working with wood or acrylic with no pattern, so when the drill goes off slightly it doesn't matter so much. Quote
Paul hd Posted June 12, 2016 Author Report Posted June 12, 2016 Very nice pen, love the colors ! Thanks Steve. I couldn't get Black Corian from this supplier so I went for what they call Blackberry as it was the darkest colour they had. It has a metallic fleck which doesn't show up on camera but it is real nice. Cheers Paul Quote
Paul hd Posted June 19, 2016 Author Report Posted June 19, 2016 Show us your lath Hi Kevin. Here is my Lathe. It is a Myford Mystro and I think it dates from the 80's maybe 70's It makes a good solid base for my Hegner as well. Unfortunately I think the old girl is getting a little tired and I think I will retire her. After running it for a while the headstock gets fairly hot, probably due to worn bearings. Quote
