trailfndr Posted June 17, 2016 Report Posted June 17, 2016 Might I ask whose patter that is? or at least where I might purchase the pattern? Beautiful job, I'd like to make this one for a good friend of mine. Quote
dgman Posted June 17, 2016 Report Posted June 17, 2016 Beautiful work! Like Marg, I love your finish! Can you tell us about your finish schedule? Quote
Bpardue Posted June 20, 2016 Author Report Posted June 20, 2016 The pattern is from a line drawing that i pulled off of Goggle and I enlarged and modified it to create the pattern. Finishes are as followed. Once the piece is completely shaped I glue it together and install the backer. Wash the piece in lemon oil to remove any saw dust. The lemon oil will also help hide the fine sanding scratches & will also bring out the natural colors in the wood. 3 coats of Clear Gloss spray paint with sanding between each coat with fine to very fine steal wool. Same Finish process to the 1/4" plywood back. Even though the backs are never seen, I believe if you take pride in the front of the piece that you should do the same in the back. D-ring installed to hang the piece. I follow this process on everything I do. My photos real don't do justice to the pieces. Thanks for all the comments I was asked to make a 3rd one on Friday. I guess this is a piece that I just need to leave the working pattern on my bench. Brian LarB 1 Quote
Denny Knappen Posted June 24, 2016 Report Posted June 24, 2016 Another great piece, Brian. Your shaping is wonderful. Quote
meflick Posted July 20, 2016 Report Posted July 20, 2016 Definitely a work of art and I am sure one that will be requested often once it is seen by anyone with a Marine connection. Thanks for sharing your photo. As a newbie to Intarsia I appreciate being able to look at everyone's work and see how they do the cutting and shaping. Quote
LarryEA Posted July 21, 2016 Report Posted July 21, 2016 Beautiful, beautiful. "Semper Fidelis" Quote
heppnerguy Posted July 21, 2016 Report Posted July 21, 2016 Tremendous. I wish I understood how to get that quality of work in my intarsia pieces. I do the best I know how to do but they are never near the quailty and workmanship of your pieces. My hat is off to you, Brian. It is absolutely beautiful.. So glad you take the time to post your things. Dick heppnerguy Quote
