don in brooklin on Posted July 14, 2016 Report Posted July 14, 2016 Like many scrollers,I do woodturning from time to time and my project this summer is to complete 5 or 6 Wig Stands for Cancer Patients. The first couple have been completed and attached. The one on the left is Oak (recycled) and the other is Maple. Our club has been doing these for the last 3 years and I recently delivered the 225th to the local Cancer Support Centre. Even though they try to recycle the wig stand when the person has completed their treatment - the need never ends. If you or your club would like to get involved, there are design specs and instructions on our web site plus if you have any questions please do not hesitate to email me. A lot of clubs in Ontario are involved but I only know of one club in PA doing them. I only took one person (cousin of one our members) to start and now they are doing lots. A very fulfilling project. MTCowpoke22 and amazingkevin 2 Quote

Scrappile Posted July 15, 2016 Report Posted July 15, 2016 Very good project. Now if you added a pink ribbon to the bottom portion of each, you could involve your scroll saw...... Quote
don in brooklin on Posted July 15, 2016 Author Report Posted July 15, 2016 This picture is not one I have done but one of our scrollers did this. The top was turned but the rest was done on the scroll saw. He was going to do the top as a bowl but never got around to it. (Sad story) See the scrollers can do them too. Quote
Scrappile Posted July 16, 2016 Report Posted July 16, 2016 Well, that is even better than what I had pictured in my mind. Quote
Lucky2 Posted July 16, 2016 Report Posted July 16, 2016 Don, good for you and your club, I've made a few of them over the years. Anyone who gets one, seems to appreciate having them. But, I find them hard to turn, not because the actual turning is difficult, but, because of the reason for turning them. Len Quote
Rockytime Posted August 8, 2016 Report Posted August 8, 2016 Many thanks for your post. I have downloaded the plans and instructions. Not only am I a new scroller but also a relatively new turner. I'd like to try this project. Quote
meflick Posted August 13, 2016 Report Posted August 13, 2016 Thanks for sharing. I will check out your site and get the patterns. My husband has started turning recently when he has free time (which isn't often - works too hard) but perhaps he can make a few at some point. If not, I will have them if I ever try to learn to turn. Other things to master first however, BUT, I do like the scroll saw one with the ribbon - perhaps I can do the bottom part and he can do the top. Quote
