Ctutor Posted August 10, 2016 Report Posted August 10, 2016 Grandparent scam going around. Early morning received call from “one of your grandsons†had a car accident have stitches in my mouth so probably can’t understand me. I went to wedding ( he really did) last Sunday on way home had an accident. Blood alcohol was over limit ‘cause I drank some wine. I’m in jail. Mom’s at work ( she really was) Public Defender will call with details cops telling me to get off phone. I will tell mom when I get out I’m so embarrassed. Attorney called and asked me to send bond for bail. Gave instructions and so forth and even had the name of the store to send funds through. Later attorney called and said the DA was pressing charges but the judge was willing to let G/S out of jail for additional bond. Phone number used by “attorney†answered as Public Defenders Office. Called my daughter and found G/S was cooking dinner. CAREFUL Quote
edward Posted August 10, 2016 Report Posted August 10, 2016 Another scam is that the IRS calls, and when they do I play around with them and drive them nuts. ( the IRS never calls) They think us seniors are stupid, yet some people fall for that, never give out your credit card numbers. edward Quote
Lucky2 Posted August 10, 2016 Report Posted August 10, 2016 Good thing you caught what was going on in time, otherwise you could have been out lots. I keep getting calls about my credit cards, and the outstanding balance on them. The thing is, I don't have a balance, the few times I use my card a month isa minimal. Plus, I pay my card off in full as soon as I get the bill. You have to be very cautious these days, there's lots of people out there who just want to rip you off. Len danny 1 Quote
Sorcier Posted August 10, 2016 Report Posted August 10, 2016 I am an attorney in California. This SCAM hit the west coast about a year ago. Some of these guys are very sophisticated and even used the name of some well known attorneys. Sorry to hear this is still happening. Ward Quote
zimmerstutzen Posted August 10, 2016 Report Posted August 10, 2016 Somebody tried that sort of scam on my ex's grandmother back around 1980. Only the story was that her husband beat her up, she was afraid to go home and needed money immediately sent by wire Quote
crupiea Posted August 10, 2016 Report Posted August 10, 2016 Pretty good scam when you think about it, much more professional sounding then most. Of course, i dont answer the phone from people i dont know so that would pretty much prevent this. Quote
kywoodmaster Posted August 10, 2016 Report Posted August 10, 2016 Really easy for scammers to make it look good when people post every movement on face book. It is not that hard to set back and watch what is going on and identify potentials targets. Glad everything worked out ok. Quote

DWSUDEKUM Posted August 10, 2016 Report Posted August 10, 2016 There is a real good way to answer the phone when you suspect that it is a pishing call or a scam call - < answer the phone > HELLO! You are on the Air! Wanna bet they hang up real quick DW Quote
wombatie Posted August 10, 2016 Report Posted August 10, 2016 The same scam is going around over here too. They should get a real job like the rest of us. Marg Quote
WigWag Workshop Posted August 10, 2016 Report Posted August 10, 2016 There is another one, young kids love to post about their vacation on social media. A group of friends were in Mexico, they were sharing pictures and such on FB. Someone called the parents of the kids, pretending to be Mexican Police, and that they have their son in jail, and a bail needs to be wired to be let out. Since the parents knew their son was vacationing in Mexico, of course the sent the money. Quote
