GrampaJim Posted September 5, 2016 Report Posted September 5, 2016 Thanks for all the good advise in my previous post. I got Judy Gale Roberts book Intarsia Workbook (ordered from her site - excellent fast service) and am working through all the lessons. Nothing to show here yet, but am learning and getting more comfortable. I just got an order for some fretwork word art and almost turned it down. I want to keep practicing and learning Intarsia. meflick Posted September 6, 2016 Report Posted September 6, 2016 Glad to hear you got JGR's book and it has gotten you "hooked" on working with Intarsia. I look forward to seeing what you get done with it. I love doing the work as well. Quote
trailfndr Posted September 6, 2016 Report Posted September 6, 2016 Welcome to your newest ADDICTION. Once I started Intarsia, I nearly detested doing any other scrollwork. I rarely do any, but am currently working on a few crosses for an upcoming Christmas sale. I now find fretwork, almost difficult to do, as its so different from Intarsia, and feels Boring without shaping anything. GrampaJim 1 Quote
NC Scroller Posted September 7, 2016 Report Posted September 7, 2016 Through a couple holiday craft shows each year and other sales I pay for all my wood, supplies, most tools, and even my class with JGR. Now if I could only pay for more time to "play" with my intarsia. Gonzo 1 Quote
Rolf Posted September 8, 2016 Report Posted September 8, 2016 Like Scott my fretwork ornaments have paid for all of the tools in my workshop over the years. But I really enjoy a variety of wood working, Intarsia is right at the top of my favorite list. That is truly where you can make any design your own by just changing the shaping and every piece of wood is so different no two pieces are the same. Quote
heppnerguy Posted September 11, 2016 Report Posted September 11, 2016 I like both intarsia and scrolling but after several years of intarsia I got hooked on scrolling and really enjoy it the most but I still do an occasional intarsia piece. I find that whether I am doing intarsia or scrolling that I am in a continual learning hobby Dick heppnerguy NC Scroller 1 Quote

This tree of life was just a fretwork pattern, but some shaping gave it more depth. Montserrat and GrampaJim 2 Quote
