I've now completed the 'Owl in a leaf'.

Cut out of 6mm thick Baltic birch plywood and mounted on a 4mm thick backer board of oak veneer.

The backer board is stained in the burnt sienna shade except for the region behind the head which is stained black.

The assembled work was finished by spraying it several coats of Tremclad (oil based) clear satin.

Sheila has two different 'Owl in a Leaf' patterns. I just completed the second one. It too, will be given to my granddaughter Brooke.

Cut out of 6mm thick Baltic birch plywood and mounted on a 4mm thick backer board of oak veneer.

The backer board is stained in the winter blue shade except for the region behind the head which is stained black.

The assembled work was finished by spraying it several coats of Tremclad (oil based) clear satin.

Three Hummingbirds (part 3 of 3):

The three leaves containing the hummingbirds are sawn out of 3mm think Baltic birch plywood.

The backer-board is 4mm thick red oak surfaced plywood.

The small leaf in the front has been sawn (and carved) out of 5mm thick figured maple.

The front was finished by spraying it several coats of Tremclad (oil based) clear satin.

I just made another of these but, this time, the materials and the finish used are different:

  • Both the foreground and background are sawn out of 3mm thick quarter-sawn white oak plywood
  • I used three different shades (mixed by me) of Saman water-based stain to colour the insides of each leaf
  • As before the small leaf has been made of 5mm think figured maple but, this time, I cut, rather than carved, the veins.
  • I used clear gloss, rather than clear satin, as a finish spray.

Glancing through this thread, I realize that I forgot to record the rainbow trout that I completed last May.  Her is a photo:

  • Kingfisher                                                2
  • Heron                                                       2

Thanks Danny.  I like all of Sheila's patterns that I have attempted, not just the Forrest Leaf series, and I hope that you enjoy utilizing them too.
