DonR Posted September 24, 2016 Report Posted September 24, 2016 As some of you may know, I spend much of my spare time sanding, carving, staining and basically ruining perfectly good pieces of wood, mostly Diamond Willow striving to create the perfect hiking staff. Recently, a customer asked me to create a staff about 7 feet long and 5 inches in diameter and to include a few native American style woodburnings and carvings. One month, to the day, later it was completed and shipped to him in Florida. The shipping weight was 20 lbs so I know he won't be hiking very far with it. Before and after pictures below. Len Len, It is for a fraternal organization for boys called The Great Island Nation. It is split into 8 or 9 "tribes" and I think it is similar to boy scouts. They will use the stick somehow in their campouts. Lucky2 1 Quote

Scrappile Posted September 24, 2016 Report Posted September 24, 2016 I love the diamond willow, but not cheap. I watch it on Ebay often because I'd like to get a piece to make a walking stick out of. I just can't get myself to justify spending the money for it. I just stick with my cherry stick I've been whittling on for years. Quote
