Think I need to find that pattern and hang it over my desk.  Last Fri. I fell for a computer scam and fortunately it only cost me $200.  Could have been much worse but got my bank involved and after shutting down my computer, I have been AWOL until today.  Had to get the computer tech out to fix things.

I have had that experience with my wife getting a call after I had gone to bed. I did not know anything about it until I got up in the morning. They had her so scared she was afraid we were going to loose everything. they did get 300 dollars sort of. That morning I called our bank and they sent compalint ot fraud group they have and I do not know what they did but we never were charged on the Credit card she used. Then in a week I called Microsoft and was transferred to IT in India going by the accent.  My lap top had crashed I thought because I could do nothing. They tried to help me and were not very successful. So he wanted to take over the computer and charge a couple hundred to take a look for  something that was causing the problem and then they could keep things running well by cleaning up the computer for 99 bucks a year. He said he could not do it but he had a department that could do that and wanted to send me to them and they would take care of it all and charge the money. I told him I would just go to the Microsoft store here in town and ask the IT there. His tone changed and said OH well that is good you have a store close but I can fix it tonight. I went to the Microsoft store and they told me what to do and in 5 minutes I was sitting there fixing the problem. The tech said Microsoft would not at least contact someone and tell them they detected something that need immediate  repair and want to take over the computer.

Years ago I had a company that kept bugging me to buy something from them.  Finally, I put my hand over the mouthpiece and only listened.  After a while the guy said,
"Do you agree with that Mr. ____________ ?

"Are you still there?"

"You s___ o_ a b______ !

Trouble is we hear an Indian accent and immediately assume trouble.  I got a call a while a go and the caller said " I know I'm Indian but don't hang up"   He wasn't trying to scam me, or sell me anything, he was from the local council and he wanted to know if we were having any trouble in our street with something or other.  We both had a good laugh and he said that he has to say that every time he rings someone.  I felt so sorry for him.

Unless it's someone I know I just say not interested BYE. Or don't answer it.  My phone shows friends numbers or you can keep them chatting for as long as you can to stop them ringing anyone else great fun. I love the double glassing people I say yes all the windows and the doors and do you do conservatories good I have one and a porch on the front door. Oh and can you send the bill to the Forest of dean council because it's a council house and rented. haa haaaa.  Roly

I have several calls like that . i had one they lamed they were from the Wells Fargo bank and they had Cashed a check frome me for $3000 dollars and The bank wouldn't accept it for lack of funds in the account. I need to wire them the $3000, i let them ramble on for about 5 minutes and then told them I didn't have $3000 and they called me a cheep SOB and I hung up. No more calls.

WOW sorry to hear you got burned. My wife gets phone calls all the time from Microsoft saying different  stories. Thankfully she always asked first. As for the pattern I have it :) I display it at shows mostly for laughs.

We get the calls from the scammers saying my computer is corrupted and stay on the line to talk to a Microsoft tech.  I get a big kick out of that!  I run Linux on my computer and don't have ANY Microshaft products in the house.

I got the same call and decided to have a little fun. When they asked for me I asked what this was in reference to. I was told that my computer was infected with viruses. I kept asking questions then finally told them that I was with the Sheriff's department and the guy they were looking was murdered. I started asking more questions and they abruptly hung up. I actually try and do this to all the weird calls. It can be a lot of fun especially when you ask them when they can come in for an interview.

This one started while I was on the computer and received a large message telling me that my computer was about to crash the system and that led on.  I had a local tech come and clean up my computer but they still keep calling to ask how my computer is running.
