New Guy Posted November 2, 2016 Report Posted November 2, 2016 My computer started to die piece by piece so I bought a new one. I had XP for a operating sytem which was very user friendly, but now I am on MS10 and frustrated as can be. ( Ran out of foul words twice already) Took me several attempts to get a new password for here is just one thing that got to me. How many of you have your password where you can find it afer a few years? Quote

WayneMahler Posted November 3, 2016 Report Posted November 3, 2016 I normally use one password for sites I belong too, one for email, and one really hard one for banking and finances and the like. That one I change about every 4 months. I do have a book with them filed. Quote
wombatie Posted November 3, 2016 Report Posted November 3, 2016 I do the same as Wayne but there is always 1 exception isn't there. Good luck with the PC. Marg Quote
Phantom Scroller Posted November 3, 2016 Report Posted November 3, 2016 (edited) Simple answer don't password protect unless you have multi users or you want to hide something. I never password protect mine because there are two many easy ways to bypass it. I'm talking the PC itself. Roly. I have forty passwords written down and they are available............................... Edited November 3, 2016 by Phantom Scroller Quote
meflick Posted November 3, 2016 Report Posted November 3, 2016 See, that's the problem - we get let our computers "auto" log us in to forums like this and then when we are forced to upgrade - we don't know our password to get in! Like everyone else - I try to use one basic same one for places like this and other "forums" I belong to; then email, and different for banking. Also, like everyone else I have most all of those written down and/or stored in a "Secret" place so I can find them (but so can anyone else who really wants to "look". So how safe are they really making things when they "force" us to change things all the time so that we have to write them down and keep them findable for ourselves! Quote
jerry1939 Posted November 3, 2016 Report Posted November 3, 2016 Dan, Is it in a paperback form or hardcover? New Guy 1 Quote

Joking apart I keep mine on a piece of paper in a draw I keep my banks locked away but very rarely forget them and never and I MEAN NEVER USE AUTO LOG IN. Roly Quote

jblock9907 Posted November 8, 2016 Report Posted November 8, 2016 If you are using Windows 10, back everything up on a seperate drive. MS has a thing about automatic downloads for their upgrades. Happened to me last week, lost a few thinks, but had them backed up. Called MS Support explained what happened and I was told that it was a pay service. They screw it up and then want you to pay to fix it. I back up my PC about 2 - 3 times a week. I use a little Passport. Quote
125 CSL Posted November 10, 2016 Report Posted November 10, 2016 Had several XP computers. Never had a problem. Wish I could get it on a newer lap top. Quote
