Here are a couple of my first projects with the new wood burner. We are headed to Tennessee Tuesday morning and these are gift for our friends. They are burnt into basswood cross sections 6" x 12". I have to say this new woodburning pen is like night and day from the old el cheapo. I have so much more control both of the pen and with temp. I am still learning what each tip does and different temps. Be honest - what do you think??

Clayton, both are quite nice, but thst Rooster is something to crow about.

Quite artistic. Thanks for showing.

PS: where did you get the patterns?

Thank you Larry. They are pictures I found searching on google. My friend collects roosters and I know she doesn't have anything like that.

Clayton, I think both these pieces look amazing, from the look of them, it doesn't look like you need much practice. I don't know which one I like best, the look of discern from the eagle, or how you made the rooster look so regal.

Thanks for sharing your photos Clayton.  My honest opinion is that they are both awesome looking and I am sure your friends are going to be thrilled to receive them.  Personally, I like the Eagle but both are great.  Looks like you are well on your way to figuring out that new pen.  My husband taught me years ago that sometimes it really is all about having the better and right tool for the job.  (Sometimes I think he regrets telling me that  ;)  )  Course, that is why I tell my kids to not just have a yard sale if something happens  - to get someone in who knows tools in the workshop and the other tools I have in my workroom.

The only wood burning I have done before was adding detail to my intarsia projects, mostly just lines. and I've made a few signs with lettering. that is the extent of it. Just started experimenting with doing pictures.

Well Clayton, all I can say is, you are a very quick learner. If I could do half as good as those you have done, I would be delighted.

Keep it up  :D  :D  :D .

I have the Razortip (Xmas gift from wife few years ago) and it is definately the way to go for wood burning.  As Melanie said, the proper tool for the job makes all the difference in doing the job and the final results.  Love them both, but the eagle really catches your eye.  Well done.  Thanks for the pics.
