Another trivet

Today I cut this trivet from an Islamic geometric design.

Just for fun, here is the piece of reclaimed rimu I used.

I know I should have cleaned it up first but I wanted to get cutting....

I was almost tempted to leave the old paint on one side but in the end sanded it off then dipped it in 50/50 BLO and applied a beeswax topcoat.

Thanks Stevan.  It was actually the front panel from a drawer just under an inch thick.  I buy broken furniture or drawer boxes from the council recycling centre.  I am fortunate that rimu was used extensively for building and furniture in New Zealand so it is relatively easy to find although it is now a protected species only milled under permit.

That was a blessing in disguise for sure .what a difference you made using it and restoring it to original
