jblock9907 Posted August 9, 2017 Report Posted August 9, 2017 I have recently requested several patterns for the families of those Killed in Action. I'm usually very brief just taking for granted that everyone knows about the Patriot Guard Riders. Please allow me to explain. The group was formed to shield families from those who felt it necessary to protest at these funerals. At first we just attended and provided flag lines, a barrier to the protestors or anything else the family requested. We only attend if we are invited. The plaques came about as an experiment. I wanted to do something special for the family. When I first requested portrait patterns I was overwelmed by the response. Since then it has only gotten more overwelming. I, or another PGR rider, present the plaques to the family at the funeral after the presentation of the flag and medals. That is one of the most emotional things I have ever done. I guess in short I just want to express my heartful thanks for everyones help. However, I looked for something more than just a thank you. That doesn't even begin to express my gratitude. I havn't found it yet but the Thank You does come from the bottom of my heart. Here is a link to a video that was made about us. In the video I stated that I had made about 75 - 80 plaques up to that time. That was 6 years ago and the number has increased to over 300. So once again Thank You. I am sure they are appreciative of the time and all that your group provides. I have no doubt that their hearts are warmed by your generosity of your time and talent to provide them with such a beautiful and heart warming tributes. I thank you and the pattern makers who have helped you with each of those. Hard to fathom doing over 300 in six years. Thank you for sharing this. Quote
