don in brooklin on Posted November 15, 2017 Report Posted November 15, 2017 I have been trying to put words around a circle but can not figure out how to get on the bottom of circle. I can get to top but not the bottom. The top is okay but no idea to curve around the bottom. I want Handcrafted by on top and my name on bottom. Thanks Don Quote
JOE_M Posted November 16, 2017 Report Posted November 16, 2017 If you want a different font/spacing let me know. I don't use inkscape for letters. Quote
jerry1939 Posted November 16, 2017 Report Posted November 16, 2017 Don, Maybe this is what you are looking for. WayneMahler 1 Quote
don in brooklin on Posted November 16, 2017 Author Report Posted November 16, 2017 Thanks Jerry That is the best video I looked at. I watched a number and either they talked to fast or I am too dumb to catch on. This one was exactly what I wanted.. If you follow Steve Good, he is offering coins to personalize wood works. The problem is that the cost to ship to Canada is really out of this world. One of the guys in our club has a laser and we thought we might try and create our own. My first attempt look like this. I now need to see what he has to say about the "laserability" Thanks everyone. Phantom Scroller 1 Quote
meflick Posted November 16, 2017 Report Posted November 16, 2017 Neat Designs all around Don and glad you got help figuring it out. I have ordered some of those coins from Steve Good for hubby for one of his Christmas gifts. Let us see what you do with yours. I really like the one with your initials. I would like to get a branding iron with a small design like that but have never found where we could get a small one. The ones we have are too big for the bowls and things he turns. Quote
don in brooklin on Posted November 17, 2017 Author Report Posted November 17, 2017 These are take off from Steve's patterns. I did these with his blessing and he offered to help if needed. the cost to ship to Canada was prohibitive. One of our club members has a laser and he is going to see what happens. He is worried about the font I used and the kerning so it may have to be adjusted. I will post pictures of final product when done. The DWC stand for Durham Woodworking Club. We do wig stands for Cancer Patients and I am hoping that we will be able to embed in the base. Keep you posted. Quote
meflick Posted November 17, 2017 Report Posted November 17, 2017 That's a cool idea to add that to the wig stands Don. I remember you previously sharing about those. I even found some information and showed my husband who started turning in the past year. His problem is time. He still works hard at his real job so he doesn't get that much time in the shop right now. Maybe one day. Quote
Clayton717 Posted November 18, 2017 Report Posted November 18, 2017 I have a friend that makes "coins" for me. I tarted using them on a lot of things I make where I didn't want to sign it or put on one of my labels. Mine has my initials in the center and handcrafted by and name. He makes them in sizes from 1/2" - 1 1/4". at least those are the sizes I have. I I remember I will take a picture of them tomorrow. Quote
meflick Posted November 18, 2017 Report Posted November 18, 2017 Thanks Clayton - look forward to seeing some of those when you get a chance. Clayton717 1 Quote
Clayton717 Posted November 18, 2017 Report Posted November 18, 2017 Here are the coins I have made for me. 1/2" - 1 3/8. These are engraved into 1/8" hardwood. My friend retired and now he does some laser engraving on the side. Here is a link to his website - http://www.kattspaw.com/home.html meflick 1 Quote

meflick Posted November 25, 2017 Report Posted November 25, 2017 Those look pretty good Don. Out of curiosity, what needs a little clean-up? Thanks for showing yours. Quote

Thanks for showing yours. There is a little burn. Touched them with 320 sandpaper and they come out really clean. I just got my order of production coins and the laser guy changed the font just a bit and increased the size by 5 thousand and they fit perfectly for a 1 inch forsner bit. Already used on 2 projects and I love it. Quote
meflick Posted December 7, 2017 Report Posted December 7, 2017 Very nice Don. Glad you were able to get it done locally in Canada and save you some $. I ordered some from Steve Good for both myself and Hubby. Hubby's will be in his Christmas stocking. Quote
