How can I turn black lines red

I have a jpg of a scene and would like to see the lines in red to make it easier to cut. Can I change the colour using Inkscape ??Do I need to use a different format eg png or bmp ??

Any help appreciated to get me looking in the right direction

Don, In Inkscape I trace the pattern then with the trace selected right click on the colour red at the bottom of the screen and then click on set stroke.

I use to know how to do it in Gimp,,, but it have been quite a while since I have done it.  Some Gimp user will explain....

@loftyhermes, I tried that but only got some dots of red at different places on the pattern.

It may be explained in the lessons in the resource section.  Had to be easy because I could do it.  I like red lines and instead of black for the cutout area I filled it with gray.  Saved black ink and made the red show up more.. Maybe @Travis could easily explain it or point to the lesson that contains the info,,, or say I am all wet and it can't be done.....

You can also open the file in GIMP.  Then go to Colors>Colorize.  Adjust Hue to the right (or whatever color you want) and move over lightness a bit.  You can also play with the saturation slider if you want it a deeper red.

Seems like I did it with something at the bottom of the screen.  I don't even see any options at the bottom of the screen now when I open it.  But when I did it I had Windows version, now I am on a Mac... maybe that is different  or an newer version... or,,,, I'm really all wet!!

I just have Office Max copy my black pattern in red.However all the black is red.
