The 21" Excalibur scroll saw with footswitch and stand is on sale for $799 at Home Depot.  That's $100 off their normal price.  Online only, I'm guessing, but they'll ship it to your local Home Depot for free.  They usually have a pretty good return policy at HD if something goes wrong, too.  I took the plunge and ordered one.  😳

Question.  I've seen a lot of scroll saws have an option for a stand, or people make one for them.  They also have workbenches.  Is there any benefit to using the stand over putting the saw on the workbench?  Other than having to use a barstool, and taking up space on my bench, I don't see any benefits of using one method over the other.  Personal preference, maybe?

Asking because I have a DeWalt788 in my Amazon basket, but for $300 more they have the Excalibur 21", or another $100 gets the Excalibur with the stand.  So I was wondering if there was an immediate benefit to the stand or is it just what one prefers?

Personally the only saw I have mounted on the manufacturer's stand is my Hegner.  I have had Carftsman, DeWalt, Excalibur   and  Seyco mounted on stands I have build.  So no way can I tell you which is better.  I have been happy with all my saws, well except the Craftsman I had,,,, I thought I way happy until I got a DeWalt than an Excalibur, than ...  Maybe it is person preference or "ignorance is bliss"!😊

I have always been an advocate to using the stand made for the saw. They are designed to help minimize vibration to the saw. I teach scroll saw at the local Woodcraft store. The saw that I demonstrate on is on the factory stand. The student saws ( all DeWALTS) are all mounted to plywood panels that are then clamped to a bench. The student saws vibrate a lot more than the demo saw, also a DeWALT.

So, yes, there is an advantage to using the factory stand.
