glenn baker Posted November 22, 2018 Report Posted November 22, 2018 i just bought an 21 in. excalibur and opened the box to see it was made in china. are these things a piece of crap? Quote
don in brooklin on Posted November 22, 2018 Report Posted November 22, 2018 What isn't made in China? From iPhones to dollar store stuff. Only the original Excalibur's where made in Scarborough, Ontario CANADA, When taken over by General production moved to Taiwan. There is a good history of the history of the Excalibur in this linkhttp://www.scrollsawvillage.com/articles/resources/excalibur-scroll-saw-what-happened-r101/ The design is the same and it is up to the quality control by the distributor. My EX-21 say made in Taiwan it is 8 years old and get used nearly every day and works as well now as when I bought it. Replace upper blade clamp as I stripped the thread but other than that it has bee a work horse. John B, OCtoolguy and tomsteve 2 1 Quote

To be honest, I am not sure that anyone can answer that question yet. They have just recently restarted the Excalibur line with their manufacturing being moved to a new plant in China. As a result, there are not many out there yet for people to give an opinion on. They are suppose to be identical to the Excalibur line that was previously well regarded but made in Taiwan. As a result, we would be interested in hearing your thoughts on it. Have you previously used another brand of scroll saw? tomsteve and OCtoolguy 2 Quote

They are a very good saw but for the sake of saving money and keeping the cost down, they moved the operation to China. I was lucky and found a used one that was still made in Canada/USA. I wouldn't be afraid of it. All the parts interchange and now they have been reintroduced here. Also, if you want to make your saw sing, buy a set of the Pegas blade clamps for it. They truly do improve the saw. Edited November 28, 2018 by octoolguy Rohn and tomsteve 2 Quote

Scrappile Posted December 12, 2018 Report Posted December 12, 2018 (edited) It all depends on the quality assurance and specifications the company having them made enforces.Excalibur has a good reputation to live up to, I would think they want to continue providing a good product. That said, I have not even seen one, nor have I read any comments about them (by some one that owns one) good or bad. Did you send it back and get a DeWalt or do you still have the Ex and if so what do you think of it? Edited December 13, 2018 by Scrappile OCtoolguy 1 Quote
loftyhermes Posted December 12, 2018 Report Posted December 12, 2018 Yes it's all down to quality control, I have a 25 year old Delta 40-560 that was made in Taiwan and it's still going strong. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
