Just getting started

Hi, my makerspace has a couple of scroll saws, I'm just learning how to use them. So far, all I've done is fit some new shelves to some existing molding in my kitchen. Made a few mistakes, but the final results are pretty handy. I'd like to do more. and this looks like a good place to learn.

Does anyone have any information about Eclipse scroll saws? I understand the the company is defunct, but I was wondering if anyone still sells parts.  Ours needs a drive belt, but we have no specs.

Hi Sam and welcome to the Village.  Where are you from?  I am in the Knoxville, TN area.  We have a Maker Space there that I keep meaning to check out.

I know Judy Gale Roberts has an Eclipse saw, you could reach out to her to see what help or information she can provide.  You can reach her via her website - intarsia.com - via her contact us page here: https://intarsia.com/pages/contact-us - it has an email address as well as an 800 number.  At one time, I thought she had information on the saw on her website, but didn't find it.

I think she was also involved in helping start a Facebook group for users of the saw.  You can find it here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/EclipseScrollSaw/

It is a public group and they have several documents and such in the Files Section there including a PDF of the User Manual, a parts list and a few other things that you may find useful.

You can also check the Sub-forums here in the Village - The Resources - Scroll Saw Reviews sub-forum and find the one for the Eclipse.  I just added some of those documents there as well as I would hate to see them "lost" if the Facebook group went down for some reason.  I did not however upload everything that was in the Files section of the Facebook group.  There are some videos and other things there as well.

Just saw this yesterday.  First time I have seen one for sale

https://portland.craigslist.org/clk/tls/d/woodland-scroll-saw/6783616770.html

You could take the belt to an auto parts store and see it they had one that would fit.  Another option is to buy a link type belt and make it the size you need.

Welcome to the forum.  Glad to have you join us.

I'm in Chicago. Do check out that Maker Space, they can be great (or lousy, like anything else, it depends on the people).

Thanks for the info,  it's already been helpful. I know our saw is missing the belt, I'm contacting the manufacturer, Voss, to see if we can get a new one.

I'll keep you all posted on progress.

That Facebook page has a PDF showing how to make a replacement belt, with part numbers and quantities of belting to order.
