Foxfold Posted April 22, 2019 Report Posted April 22, 2019 Absolutely fabulously awesome. May I ask what size it is ? I don't have the skill to make something like that but I do so love to see them. Quote

scrollerpete Posted April 22, 2019 Report Posted April 22, 2019 That is a piece of art, your choice of wood was excellent. Quote
Wilson142 Posted April 22, 2019 Report Posted April 22, 2019 Really nice piece! Wood selection, fit and finish is nice as many have commented. What really strikes me is, the amount of time and thought given to making this piece 3 dimensional and giving it a look of texture. So often I see projects that fit nicely but, haven't been shaped enough (IMO), to give them any depth. They look more like segmentation than intarsia without proper sanding and using shims etc. Quote

Far as depth I always start out with a solid 4x4 woods and raise or lower the pieces by a quarter of an inch. I have found to get a good 3D image that method works great. I will use 3/8 to 1/2 wood for a backdrop only. There was a Raccoon heads I did last year in the "in progress section" following my process because everyone had been commenting on the depth of my pieces. I agree on the nearing flat pieces out there, the may look nice but they tend to be more segmentation. This piece took me between 20-25 hours - 1/2 the time selecting the wood & cutting and the other 1/2 raising, lowering, shaping, gluing & finishing the pieces. Brian GrampaJim 1 Quote
