oldhudson Posted July 17, 2019 Report Posted July 17, 2019 This project is all red oak. Incredibly I found a beveled mirror the correct size on-line at Menards (a big box store in the upper Midwest). Almost everyone can use a mirror and the shelf works well for a wallet, necklace, earnings, change etc. And even though there's a closet in the room the pegs may come in handy. The frame is put together with 3/8" dowels. All miters cut with a hand miter box. Around the inside of the mirror and around the edge of the shelf is 1/4" bead molding. I had to re-saw 3/4" stock to about 5/16 and then plane to 1/4". A couple passes through the router table with a round-over bit to get the bead profile. I don't have much experience making bead molding so that was a challenge. Under the cap there's cove molding and the bottom is a piece of cove molding as well. That was another router operation, but lots easier than the beading. The router was used to create a rabbit on the back to hold the glass. The shaker pegs were off the shelf from Rockler. Finishing started with a grain filler. Quite a bit of sanding. Blond shellac. Light sanding. Three coats of General Finishes polyacrylic wiht light sanding between coats. I can never figure out how to put a caption with a picture so you'll have to figure it out. Questions and comments, even critical ones, welcome. I'm always trying to find better ways to do things. meflick, jollyred and Lucky2 3 Quote
