teachnlearn Posted November 25, 2019 Report Posted November 25, 2019 When I was a kid I pretended to launch my toy space ship. NOW I KNOW WHERE THAT DARN THING WENT! RJF Quote
Scrappile Posted November 26, 2019 Report Posted November 26, 2019 Pretty cool. I've been watching the series on NetFlix called "Mars". Very well done. The things they have to solve to get there seem insurmountable, but they, the scientists of the world will get there...I won't see it but a the people a little younger than me will. Quote
teachnlearn Posted November 26, 2019 Report Posted November 26, 2019 All kidding aside, there are a lot of technical challenges. The trip is so long, its a one way trip at this point. So who ever goes is going to have to solve on their feet, cause its going to be a while for supplies or more people. Unless a 'starship' is developed as a massive support ship, they are going to have to covert the area to a self surviving, air generating, and able to support growing food. Meanwhile the trip is so long, people are going to have to survive in a box physically and mentally. RJF Quote
Scrappile Posted November 26, 2019 Report Posted November 26, 2019 This is a subject I love, but too lengthy to discuss on a forum. I do recommend the Netflix "Mars" series for those interested. I is a documentary/SiFi movie combined. What is planed and needed to be resolved in as of 2016 (documentry) and what it could be like on the first trip in 2033. I think it is very well done and really am enjoying the episodes. I woke up the other night in a with the thought, when they start colonizing Mars, they will only select the most intelligent, most healthy, young, capable to send there because they are the only ones that have a chance to survive. Earth will be left with,,,,,,,, Something I'd love to sit around a fire with a good Scotch whiskey and discuss with friend/family... I have found some that are interested in the Scotch Whiskey,,,, but not the subject.... Quote
Gonzo Posted November 26, 2019 Report Posted November 26, 2019 Awesome. I was 8 years old when "we" landed on the moon. The Mercury, Gemini and Apollo programs are fascinating. One of my favorite quotes by an Astronaut was Alan Sheppard, waiting to lift off and be the first American in space, said, "let's light this candle". Man! That's one brave (and funny) son-of-a-gun. Jim McDonald Posted November 26, 2019 Report Posted November 26, 2019 @Scrappile I will pass on the Scotch, but would enjoy such a conversation. Probably would best be held on a boat under a shade tree as we pretend we are interested in the fishing we are allegedly doing. Scrappile 1 Quote

I got a bottle of Belvenie. Will that work? A good cigar to go wth it would be nice. Scrappile 1 Quote
Scrappile Posted November 28, 2019 Report Posted November 28, 2019 Have to be a Marsh Wheeling Deluxe Lancero Natural cigar, haven't had one of those in over 30 years. I had to look up the Belvenie because I am from the Black Douglass Scots. I don't think my ancestors were considered in the upper class. We would have been more of the Clan MacGregor range of scotch...... cheap! Quote
