Rockytime Posted December 1, 2019 Report Posted December 1, 2019 I made a couple of these. Pattern posted a day ago or so. Have no idea what to with them. My wife no longer cooks and I eat out a lot. But it was something I could quickly make. I learned something. One never has enough tools. I cut them from 1/2" Oak. Cutting is easy but finishing, like sanding is a pain. I should be able to lock them together with a couple of 1" dowels and sand them to be perfectly alike. Sanding by hand? Not a chance. Now I need a spindle sander. Will it ever end? dgman Posted December 1, 2019 Report Posted December 1, 2019 They look nice Les! A spindle sander is nice, I do have one but you can get by with an inexpensive set of spindle sanders from Harbor freight. Of course you need a drill press! Rockytime and Be_O_Be 1 1 Quote

I have two drill presses but not a spindle sander. I really want one. Quote

So what you are really saying is that these make a good excuse to “need” the spindle sander that you “really want”. Nice job on making them. Edited December 1, 2019 by meflick Typos Rockytime 1 Quote

Rockytime Posted December 1, 2019 Author Report Posted December 1, 2019 At 81 I feel guilty about buying it. Don't know how long I can use it. My wife is not a spender and doesn't care what I buy. She is frugal but just says, "What ever makes you happy. " Then the guilt comes in. New year's eve we will complete 56 years of marriage. I've had it too good for too long. Also I need the smallest footprint possible because I will need a shoehorn to get it on the bench. I went with the HF sander as the store is 10 minutes from me. $149 so same price as the Wen. It will get limited use and I could get by without it but it is an impulse thing. Appreciate the advice though. I did look at the combo machines and I like the idea. JimErn and OzarkSawdust 2 Quote
