OCtoolguy Posted April 11, 2020 Report Posted April 11, 2020 Hi All, I wanted to share what my Son sent me for my birthday. He sort of knew I wanted it because I had inquired as to its price when he first announced it on his Facebook page. He is a Cornwell Tools dealer in Colorado Springs. Sort of followed in his old man's footsteps. Anyway, today I get a package with this file set in it. I thought maybe some of you folks might be interested because it's an odd size set. The files are all 6" blades with handles. I think they are imported from Germany because I'm familiar with the AST brand name. It stands for Assenmacher Speciaty Tools. I used to buy a lot of stuff from them when I was in the business. The 6 shapes are as follows: 1-flat 1-tapered 1-round 1-3-sided 1-square 1-half round They are all double cut. I won't swear to it but I'd put them at about $40 for the set. If any of you are interested, I'll put you in touch with him. I'm not trying to boost his business as much as letting you all know about this neat little set. I've had needle files and regular 8-10" files for years but this set falls right in the middle. Just what the doctor ordered. Jim McDonald, meflick, Scrappile and 1 other 4 Quote

Scrappile Posted April 11, 2020 Report Posted April 11, 2020 (edited) Cool! My BD was last February and my son is still asking me what I want for my BD... I don't care about BD present at my age. It came up again the other day in a phone conversation and I told him I had finally decided what I want.... You would never guess.... I told him I wanted a Narwhal Tusk!!! I think they are one of the neatest whales ever. Let him chew on that a while..... Edited April 11, 2020 by Scrappile OCtoolguy 1 Quote

I told my son last year not to send me anything because they are still struggling with the start up of their business. But, I made the mistake of asking him what my cost would be on the set. He has a page on FB and he always posts the newest tool releases for everybody who is on his page. When I saw the set, it intrigued me so I asked him. He wrote back with my cost and I told him that I would get back to him on it. I should have asked him my cost on a drum sander. LOL. Quote
dgman Posted April 12, 2020 Report Posted April 12, 2020 Well Ray, let me be the first to wish you a happy Birthday! So, do you think the Birthday Fairy and the Easter Bunny will cross paths? OCtoolguy 1 Quote

I also told everybody that they are not expected to get up before the sunrise on my behalf. Scrappile and dgman 2 Quote

kmmcrafts Posted April 13, 2020 Report Posted April 13, 2020 Looks to be a really nice set of files.. I've been thinking about buying a nice set of new files.. but I have no idea what a good brand is.. I have a file that I found in the garage when I bought my house.. It's really old one and the handle was missing.. I found a handle to put on it.. It's a big flat file and an awesome one at that.. I've been using it for the last 30 years to sharpen my mower blades.. that nice wide flat file does an amazing job and is aggressive enough that it's faster to grab it than to dig out the grinder, extension cord etc.. so that has been my go to file for many years... not sure if they wear out at all or not.. probably can't buy one to be as good or last as long as this one has.. Yeah, some of the old steel was better. I have some files that my Dad gave me and they work great. This new set seems to cut well. I have two sets of Swiss needle files but they are just too fine. This new set is just the right size and are double cut. I should never need another file. I'm going to ask my son what my price would be on a drum sander. Who know's what might show? kmmcrafts 1 Quote
