teachnlearn Posted May 4, 2020 Report Posted May 4, 2020 Stick your finger in the dirt and it should be moist. Keep the watering consistent or your tomatoes will crack. Your picture shows you have an extension from the drain of the gutter. You planted right against the house. SOOOO. If you water the plants your putting water against the foundation. Hopefully, you don't have problems with leaks. Something people forget putting bushes, plants against the foundation. The roots will work into cracks of the foundation AND watering plants, your watering your basement. One trick for tomato plants. Their roots can go deep.. When the plant gets bigger,Cut one side of a pvc pipe at an angle, drive the pvc pipe against each plant and put water in the pipe. It will get the water to the deeper root without soaking a large area. RJF amazingkevin and smitty0312 2 Quote

teachnlearn Posted May 4, 2020 Report Posted May 4, 2020 (edited) Good, the foundation is enough it looked like a basement. My wife grew up vegetable gardening, SOOOO, even with an apartment, we have gardened in community gardens. Like the gardening, hate the drive and dragging the garden tools and hose to the site. ChelCass Posted May 4, 2020 Report Posted May 4, 2020 Looks good Dan. What's the possibility of catching some rain water from your downspout for your tomatoes? They would love that. amazingkevin, smitty0312, teachnlearn and 1 other 4 Quote
wombatie Posted May 5, 2020 Report Posted May 5, 2020 Better late than never Dan. Home grown tastes much better. We also grow lots of tiny tomatoes and keep a bowl on the bench, grab a handful to snack on. Yum. Marg amazingkevin, smitty0312 and danny 3 Quote

ChelCass Posted May 5, 2020 Report Posted May 5, 2020 Couple of suggestions you might consider: 1. Plant a couple of marigolds or nasturtiums with the tomato plants to help ward off tomato worms and other insects. 2. spread some washed crushed eggshells under the plants to help kill off any slugs. smitty0312 and amazingkevin 2 Quote
