Smitty54 Posted September 21, 2020 Report Posted September 21, 2020 I think I read that someone had the table higher in the back to see the line going to the blade better. Do you do this? Now that I have a great saw, I am still having trouble staying on the line. I have my 788 at the slowest setting. Thanks in advance. OCtoolguy and new2woodwrk 2 Quote
new2woodwrk Posted September 21, 2020 Report Posted September 21, 2020 I have mine raised slightly - the height of flat 2x4 (1 3/4). It does help me see the lines better. I also use a lighted magnifier which I must say is one of the best accessories I've added to my process Also, I used to cut my Delta at speed 3. I'm now cutting 6-7 and have much better control and accuracy. Smitty54 and OCtoolguy 2 Quote
dgman Posted September 22, 2020 Report Posted September 22, 2020 Are you using the DeWALT stand? If so, it is designed so you can raise the rear of the saw. As far as slowing down the saw, I never recommend slowing the saw speed down to the slowest speed. You actually have more difficulty controlling the cut. I recommend you start at about speed 4, then go from there. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Smitty54 Posted September 22, 2020 Author Report Posted September 22, 2020 Yes I have the DeWalt stand. Just checking before I did it. Also I should have asked how high to raise it. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
dgman Posted September 22, 2020 Report Posted September 22, 2020 I think there are two or three levels. Just try it and see what you like. You don’t want it tilted so much that everything wants to fall of the front of the table. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Bill WIlson Posted September 22, 2020 Report Posted September 22, 2020 It's a matter of ergonomics as much as sight lines. You want to avoid leaning over too much and you want to get your hands and wrists at a comfortable height to avoid fatigue, soreness, numbness, etc. How much you tilt the saw will depend on how high your chair is (assuming you cut while seated). I would suggest raising the back by one hole in the rear leg and see how you like it. It may take a few tries to get to the ideal place for you, but everyone is different, so it's hard to tell you where that is. Some folks don't like the saw tilted at all. You may discover that you are one. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Roberta Moreton Posted September 23, 2020 Report Posted September 23, 2020 First try the middle setting, second, turn that speed up to at LEAST 3/4. Quote
Solution Smitty54 Posted September 24, 2020 Author Solution Report Posted September 24, 2020 Through my back out lifting it up and putting the bolt in by my self. Looks good to me now. It will be a Couple of days before I can saw. Quote
don watson Posted September 24, 2020 Report Posted September 24, 2020 I have my saw mounted on a workhorse table and the back legs sit on 2" thick blocks. I can work for a while and still feel comfortable. Don W Quote
Smitty54 Posted September 24, 2020 Author Report Posted September 24, 2020 Thanks for the answers and advice. I raised it to the middle setting. I have done my first peace on the 788. I also raise the speed to four. After sanding and painting I will post pictures on bragging rights. Quote
