I'm new to this forum so please bear with me if I haven't submitted my question properly.

A few months ago I made three of these scrollsaw projects.  They were probably above my skill level, but I was happy with the final product.  The folks I gave them to were pleased.  But now I have a problem.

I have advanced Age related Macular degeneration.  My question is whether anyone else in the scrollsaw comunity has this problem.  Following lines is very difficult, but I like to do some scrolling.  Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I have cataracts and also have a difficult time following the lines.  A good magnifying glass with light helps.  There is also glasses you can buy off Amazon with a set of different lens to help you see more clearly. Steve good wrote about them a couple years ago you could check his site for the name of them.

Another thing to possibly give a little help is to increase the contrast of the pattern - for example black ink on yellow paper is a better contrast than black ink on white paper the light reflected off the white paper makes it harder for the eyes to deal with. Also anything to cut any glare from the lighting will help.

@ramonerl, I am glad I am not the only one with this problem. I only have it in one eye though. I am not sure if this will help, but has helped me drastically. First, I use a black sharpie to trace the outlines. I have tried pencil, but it doesn't work too well. The other thing I did was change the light bulb on the saw to an LED. That made a huge difference. Your condition will depend on one eye or both and how advanced. if you have one eye that is better than the other, another option is an eye patch. Just throwing it out there. Let me know if you find something else to help you as I know mine is going to be getting worse, if it hasn't already.

I had both eyes done for cataracts and I can't tell you what a difference it made. But, I lost all of my "up-close" vision so I bought glasses that are progressive lenses. I was so used to wearing glasses that I felt uncomfortable without them. So, now I have the best of both worlds wearing glasses full-time. I also bought a lighted magnifier from Harbor Freight. About $40. That helped too. I changed the bulb in it to an LED and it is much brighter. Everything you do will help. I also like the idea of printing patterns on yellow paper or printing in red ink on white paper. Both will help. Best of luck to you and keep scrolling as long as you can. It's a great hobby.

Thanks, Fedido.  Unfortunately, I have AMD in both eyes.  The right eye is worse than the left.  It has the big dark spot in the center of my vision.  The left eye distorts the lines.  Mostly the lines are wavy and sometimes double.  Hard to explain, but suffice it to say I have a lot of trouble following a line.   Picture this,  two vertical parallel lines come together at some point, depending  on where I look at them.  Very distracting.

If I hear of anytihin that will help, I'll be sure to post it on this forum.

Thank you and yes, I do understand this completely. When I see two lines, I always aim for the middle one, or I stop and refocus, but mostly aim for the middle. I have been taking ICAPS pills that is supposed to help. Two a day. Only thing is it will make your urine glow. Just thought I would share this.
