I have a Makita 5" orbital sander that lately the sandpaper discs won't stay on very long.  I think I know the reason why but want some input.  I reckon that the pad attached to the bottom of the sander needs to be replaced but it looks brand new still.  The sander is probably 2 -3 years old.  I use air to blow the dust from the sanding pad before attaching a new sandpaper disc, but it only stays on for about 5 minutes before flying off.  I use air again on both the sanding pad and the sandpaper disc but it fly's off again in less than a minute.  The sandpaper disc has tons of life left in it but won't stay on.  I put a new sandpaper disc on and it lasts about 5 minutes before it too fly's off.  I will try to find a replace pad for the sander but like I said, the current one still looks to be in very good shape.  Maybe it has just lost it's velcro-ness.

Hey dummy, all you had to do was to google it and you would have saw that you are correct that the pad needs to be replaced.  You don't have to buy the Makita brand, there are some generic brands that have good reviews.

That was my first reaction. I believe the original poster posted that comment.

I guess I missed that. I'm glad to find that out. I was wondering about the rude comment. Not at all like SSV.

I had the Makita sander for many years and changed pads many times, best to shop around for pricing, even Makita depots seemed to vary in pricing and I saw little difference in quality, now have Millwakie better dust collection and pad has stood a couple of years service and still going strong
