question about a problem with an etsy sale

i got an order yesterday -that states un-confirmed shipping address

the site will not let me print a shipping label ( or at least thats what they say )-the address is in Hawaii

I could just take it to the post office -but thinking mybe it wont get their -

plus the shipping is alot more -

anyone ever run into this before -dont want to be scammed.

Whenever I get an unconfirmed address I always contact the customer and try to work out the shipping. Are they oversea?

Most times when this happens it's a miss spelled street name or something along those lines.. I would contact the customer and see if there is a mistake.. Hopefully they respond quickly.. some cases the customer has notifications turned off within etsy so when you send a message they don't receive it.. in that case you either chance it or cancel order and say you cannot complete you order due to incorrect address because you only ship to confirmed addresses.. or something along those lines.. Not everyone gets online every day either so it may be a few days before they answer back.. I've only ever run into situations a couple times where etsy wouldn't let the label to be created.. Most times in that case there is an error in the address.. there are unconfrimed addresses that etsy will still let you print the label.. so I suspect there is an error with either the address format they provided or the spelling of the address. Also many times etsy will suggest a address in order to confirm it.. ( ie if a address is:

John Doe 

4850 West Main Street

Etsy might suggest it to be

4850 W. Main St.

In the last format it might change it from unconfirmed address to a confirmed address.. The format can change it to be a confirmed address.  

Sometimes it the case of the zip code doesn't match the city.. have had cases of that  and I would look up on google the zip codes for the city they entered and it's not a match.. etsy wont let you print it.. If there is only one zip code for the city selected you can probably be safe to change it.. sometimes there is several zip codes for the said city.. then it's a guessing game, LOL

It is usually some spelling issue. The post office loves to abbreviate things. I've had them fail several times due to road vs. rd for example.

The first thing I try is to search for the address in google maps. Google maps are very good at sorting out miss spellings.

My street address is 131A. Where I live, it is not uncommon to have letters in street addresses. However, this causes some software to go off the deep end.

In a county near where I live, they have addresses based on GPS coordinates to make it easy for emergency responders to find you, but I'll bet it gives the software a fit.

Well I took away a apostre in the name of the street and etsy

change to verified address - it was in hawaii 

problem solved -i didnt want to cancel the sale -

I'm glad you got it straightened out.. I know the feeling of trying to do what you can to " not " cancel the order.. but over the years I've had to cancel out a few.. 

One I hate is once I've already mailed it out they message and say they forgot to change the address within etsy and it's going to the wrong house.. I usually tell them they need to contact that local post office and have them redirect it to their corrected address.. or if they are still in the same area to have the P/O hold it and they'll come pick it up. This happens to me about 4-6 times a year. and sometimes they get lucky and catch it and other times the package goes missing completely..... otherwise it gets mailed back to me.. which really has only happened 2 times.. most times it goes missing..
